I'm using instant scenery in FSX, and I'm trying to exclude some stock objects with exclusion builder for FSX version three. It made an XML file, now what do I do with it?

(noob alert)

....Thanks for all of your patience. I konw I've been asking a lot of dumb questions lately, but I'm trying to learn this stuff.

You need to compile it - did the program not create a bgl file?

I have no clue if it made a .BGL or not. It spit out a .XML into my public documents folder when I saved what I made, and nothing else there. I've done computer wide searches; I'm pretty sure it didn't spit anything else out.

What is compiling an .XML?

Hell, I'm not even sure that I did the exclusion right, or if I checked the correct boxes. I was trying to keep the airfield but delete all buildings and such. This was my first experiment and I didn't get very far.

Thanks again,

Where did you get ExcBuilder for FSX from - I don't use it but maybe I can see what is happening.

The biggest cause of problems with excludes is not having the Top Left and Bottom Right coordinates set right. Top Left Coordinates must be more north and more west than bottom right otherwise it will fail.

Can you post the XML here? Just copy the contents - it should not be very big.

it says that it's an invalid file.

it says that it's an invalid file.

it (being what?) says what is an invalid file? If I can see the xml I can maybe work out the problem

okay, that was a REALLY vague response, sorry.

What I should've said was, I can't upload the .XML to these forums because they don't accept that format.

Thanks again for your patience!

Speaking of the SDK, I have FSX deluxe, and I don't know how to access the SDK. In what form does the SDk show up? is it a program? I'm not even sure exactly what it is.

The SDK is a separate installation. It does not get installed by default when you install FSX. If you look on the DVD you sgould see a folder for the SDK and in there is the installer file. Email me the xml - jon AT scruffyduck.co.uk
