Hi all...

I hope you don't mind but I'd like to pimp an online WW2 flight Sim. Air Attack was the original Fighter Ace and is still available to play totally free or charge. The game may look a little dated now, especially if you compare the graphics to IL2 etc, but the playabilty of the game is what has kept it going for so many years. I belong to the UKAA club, but there is also club sites in Germany, USA and Korea with members from all over the globe.

The UK site can be found at www.airattack.co.uk with our own forums and all the information you'll need. The game itself though is launched from a single site which is run by all the communities together. This can be found at www.airattack-central.com.

Please feel free to give it a try and any questions just ask, either on here or on the UK forums.

<TIGER>G9Nemo,

What do you like about the game Air Attack? What sets it apart other than it's being free? (Not that being free isn't an advantage.)

For example, IL-2 Sturmovik is a payware product, but once you've plunked your money down you can fly with any number of online squadrons for free. It's not $10/month like so many other online games. Ditto CFS3 -- pay once, fly online for free once you hook up with the right people.

I'm not challenging, I'm asking a serious question. I have an ulterior motive that I don't care to discuss that makes me want to understand the totality of the military flight sim world, both online and offline. And at some point I'm going to try all of the online stuff, but you can help us all out by being more specific.

I've been playing Air Attack for around 7 years, I've tried other games but for me there is none like AA. It is dated and the graphics arn't the best, but it's the playabilty of the game.

Maybe that's it's beauty, it is unique I guess the way other games around it have evolved, but this has stayed the same. Many of the players have been around for many years building up grerat community spirits between all nationalities, we've even had meats in the UK where guys have come over from the States and Germany.

The general gameplay is done in 2 arenas

FFA (free for all) in this arena you shoot anyone that flies (we have a few rules one is no shooting planes on the ground) as soon as you die you respawn in the air to continue.

Teams. Here you choose a nation GB/GE/SU or US and you fly as a team not shooting any of your team members. This is a bit more tactical and can be quite hard for the novice.

There is also rookie areans of the above that are just for beginners.

You also have ethe option to create your own arenas for a private game, maybe a 1 on 1 with a friend. In these you can add your own settings like limited ammo/fuel etc.

The game itself is monitored by Sysops so trouble causers are kept to a minimun which is always a good thing in any game.

To be honest it is a hard game to promote because of it's age, but it's a game that has been going for 10+ years so hopefully that should tell you something.
