Sorry. I didn't mean to be deceptive, but this seemed the only way I could be
assured of a response, since the last post in the ATC sim dates back in '96.
Does anyone know of a way to make Tower (sim by BAO) work in WinXP? I'm
getting an error message stating that a dll file was created for Win32, then it

shuts down.

tim

Look in the properties menu for the application and check out the possibility
of running it in a differing compatability mode - you might also look in the
help file for hints about compatability mode.

Art,

I double-clicked one of the ***CRT**.dll files and asked Windows to get help on
the web in making an association. Microsoft came back saying (via automated
help) that it had something to do with Runtime Library, whatever that is.
Haven't checked Tower's help file, since I didn't think they would've
anticipated WindowsXP ever existing at the time Tower was released. Do you
know if Bruce Artwick ever checks this forum?

I've never seen Bruce Artwick on ANY forum!

You should not have to make an association with ANY .dll file - the program
needing it will "call" it. A .dll file is a Dynamic Link Library and, as such,
is never (well, hardly ever!) opened by anything except an application. Making
an association of any kind with a .dll file most likely has nothing to do with
your problem.

I don't have my laptop handy (it's the computer I have with XP installed), but
you *still* need to right-click on Tower.exe, open the properties window and
make choices based on the mode you wish to run the app.

Art,

Guess I must've misunderstood you. I hadn't discovered that neat little
feature on WinXP until now. I tried several different compatibility options
with Tower.exe . I even went back and ran the setup program under Win95
compatibility. Still no dice. It keeps telling me that "this version of
MSVCRT20.dll was designed to run under Win32s." After clicking "OK", it then
tells me that "load library failed". Does that shed any light?

Not really. Only got one other idea left.

I had a problem with a program after I bought my laptop. The program would run
for a little while, then develop errors. After that, it wouldn't run at all -
just kept generating the same error.

I purchased Partition Magic (be sure to get the version that will work with
XP), moved the existing partition (just a little bit!) and established another
bootable partition and a virtual partition. I installed WIN98SE in the bottable
partition and used the virtual partition for all my data for the program that
wouldn't run in XP. That solved *my* problem. It might solve yours. Once you
get a partition established for WIN98SE, you may need to run Tower in the DOS
mode - but the chances are much better it *will* run.
