Everythings been going fine until today when I installed two new aircraft. Now
on "Select Aircraft" I can only get 4 of the 35 I used to be able to select
from.
If I try to load a saved situation where one of my original a/c was included I
get ""Aircraft Initialization failure"
I've compared the files in the folders of the a/c which do show with those that

don't and can see no apparent difference in the files.

Remove the two new aircraft you installed. You *do* still have the original zip
files, don't you?

If the remainder of your aircraft show up properly, you can blame it on either
one or both the new aircraft. Otherwise the install has totally screwed
something else up (a little unusual, but possible).

I could still only get the default a/c + about 3 of my own additions. I have
tried almost everything I can think of of no avail. Now I'm going to re-install
FS2k and add my new a/c one at a time until it's busted.

It's a shame you have to go that route, but that's a good beta test. Backups
are handy as well. Here's what I did:

Install FS2K (or whatever flight sim - this works for anything).
Find the following directories (1) aircraft (2) scenery (3) sound (4) texture
(5) gauges and any other directory you deem highly important.

Either zip them (depending on size) or store them directly to a CD or CD R/W.
CD-Rs are so cheap these days I tend to use them as long as I need 'em them
toss 'em!

As I add planes/gauges/scenery, etc., I keep making sure the new addon whatever
still works without crashing anything else in the system. I'm also a little
finicky. If a new plane shows up that looks really good on the outside, but the
panel sucks, I toss it. I may not even save the original zip file. It just
tends to clog things if I keep it.

If and when you eventually come across something that "disturbs" other aircraft
or other scenery, clean out those present directories and copy your "fail-safe"
directories from the CD. It will seem like a pain in the a** at times, but it's
a lot faster than a re-install!
