I am totally new to this. Having had FS2000 tucked away in a drawer fo about a
year, ( shame on me)
I would like to start my flights at the gate but can't seem to get any info on
this. Any help would be appreciated.

I suggest downloading and installing a programme - available, I think, on this
site - called QuickGoTo.zip
When it's installed (see the included "Readme" document), it will 'remember'
the exact co-ordinates of any parking place you choose so that you can put your
aircraft there quickly.
On my own installation I have around 30 or so 'remembered' locations, all -
needless to say - at gates of various airports.
One word of caution. If you decide to start from parking location X at airport
Y, it's a good idea to put your aircraft first at airport Y via the GoTo
facility and then 'fine-tune' the location with QuickGoTo. This avoids any
crashes which might result from a great difference in altitude between the
airport you were at before and the one you select in GoTo.
A useful little programme.
There are, of course, other ways, such as the Save Flight option under
"Flights" and, of course, selecting "Previous Flight" as your default flight
position will ensure that your aircraft will be, when you start up FS2K, where
you left it last time.
Hope this helps.
All the best,
Peter Preston

Go to airport of choice (using either FSNavigator or the menu). Use slew to
position your aircraft exactly where you want it. Then set all the controls
(i.e., engine off, battery off, etc.) the way you want them. Then SAVE the
flight - you can start that function with the ";" key. Then, if you like, you
can make that your default flight by clicking on the square below the dialog
box where you save the flight. Everytime you start the sim it will "wake up" at
that position, in that mode.

Hope that helps.

There may be quicker ways to do this, but I get to the gate simply by taxi-ing
from the runway to a gate and then starting again. There must be a way to slew
to the gate, but I don't use slew, so I don't know.
Happy flying!

Press the "Y" key. Everything will sort of freeze and you'll see the same
display at the top of the screen you see when you press SHIFT+Z. Using the keys
on the numpad (or your joystick/yoke) you can move the plane around to put it
exactly where you want it. It helps a lot if you press CTRL+S and get the
overhead view. The front of your aircraft points towards the top of the screen.
The "4" key moves left, "5" key moves right, "8" key goes forwards, "2" key
goes backward, "1" key turns left, "3" key turns right. The "7" and "9" keys
respectively bank the wings left or right - inapplicable (and dangerous!) when
you're on the ground!

It may take several key presses (or hold the key down) before you see any
appreciable motion. Easy does it! You can really get to flying (and get lost)
if you're not careful. Use the "5" key to immediately arrest any motion in any
direction.

Oh, almost forgot. "Q" takes you up - "A" takes you back down.
