Hello Art, It would appear that XP home edition is not compatible with
FS 98 or FS 2000. It is compatible with FS2002.Why Microsoft would bring out
an operating system that is not compatible with FS2000 is beyond believe.
Hopefully, they will get their act together and bring out a patch for XP
so that is compatible with their software. That would be a concept!

You may be right, but I couldn't make mine work very well with FS2002. I must
admit, however, that was on a laptop. When you run across driver or related
hardware issues, it's quite an ordeal to "change out" the video card on a
laptop!

For your information. I am running both 2000 and 2002 on my HP N5495 laptop
computer with no problems. Windows XP Home Edition came installed.

I suspect (certainly based on some of the postings I've seen here) I would have
had a great deal more success on using XP with the sims if I were running it on
something besides a laptop. It's kind of hard to change out the video card on a
laptop! And I was *definitely* having problems with video conflicts. XP seems
to have some pretty good sense about identifying where conflicts exist and is
pretty good about telling about them.

On another positive note with XP - I extensively used the "system restore"
capabilities in XP (the system restore capability also exists with Windows ME)
on my laptop. After installing FS98 I started developing all kinds of strange
problems, including weird sound. Playing .mp3 files became a joke. After each
particular installation of a new application, I had been setting restore
points. I had, by that time, over a three month period, re-staged the PC three
times. This last time, by just going back to the point just before I had
installed FS98, restored everything to perfect working order. Now that I've set
up the second desktop PC as a sort of "portable" (meaning I'm gonna take it
with me in my travel trailer!) I can use the laptop for sensible operations and
while I'm writing in Word or tasking in Excel, I can fly, fly, fly! (Fly FS2002
that is!)

Hello greenco,
Glad to hear that XP works for you. However, I have tries XP on three machines
and have compatibility issues with FS2000. I have given up for the time being
and use Win 98 SE.
