Jon,
I just bought MSCFS and MS FF Pro stick this past weekend (I found the joystick
as an "open box item" at Best Buy for $89--minus the $30 rebate--$59!!). So
far I am favorably impressed with both. The force-feedback is not pervasive
(not overdone)--but you can definitely feel feedback when the wheels are
rolling, guns are firing, or when you get hit. Also, the rigidity of the stick
varies based on airspeed and attitude, adding to the overall effect. Even
without the force feedback, I am pleased with the precision of the Microsoft
joystick (which is probably just about the same as the non ff Sidewinder). It
works well with non ff games like USNF97 (but not DOS mode games like the
original ATF).
Also, the game itself is fantastic.
Just my early impressions--

Hi all,
I was thinking of getting the Microsoft Sidewinder Pro Force Feedback stick for
use with MSCFS.
I can get it for $119.95 locally and with the $30.00 rebate it brings it down
to $89.95. The price is right but I知 unsure of the product and FF in general.
Is FF worth it? I would be interested in hearing from anyone that has
experience with the SideWinder pro FF and MSCFS. I have read that others have
had problems using this stick with a separate rudder and throttle. Can anyone
confirm this? How about MS rebates? MS good for them? Just for the record I
think this sim is great. I got it for $39.00 and with the MS rebate for $10.00
and a MasterCard rebate for $5.00 it brings the price down to $25.00. Great
deal as far as I知 concerned.
Thanks for your time,
Jon

Hi Jon Have the stik your refering to and the only problem I see is when in
the heat of action , one has a tendancy to turn the stik a bit and it is damn
=hard to hit things when you are in a slide.:-) and I find cfs eulates this
darn well! Have not tried it with sepparate pedals, but could see a conflict.

hey,
i bought that stik a few months ago and it sucked big time! in fs98 all it did
was move around the whole time and i could bearly fly! besides most games don't
have ff. it's not really worth $100. i was hoping that ef2000 v2.0 would be
compatible. i wouldn't buy it!

Well I can't tell you about the FF joystick and CFS becuase I'm still
waiting for my copy of CFS! But I can tell you I LOVE my FF stick in
FS 98 and the other games I play. It's great to feel the stick become
more "spongy" as you slow down and tighten up as your speed increases.
It really adds a lot of realism to FS 98. The one problem I had is that
I was till running an old Sound Blaster 16. That particular card
doesn't work well at all with digital "toys" like the FF joystick
so I had to buy myself a new sound card. Picked up a Sound Blaster
AWE 64, and I've been happy as a clam every since. Hopefully someone
can answer your question regarding CFS and the FF stick. Just
wanted to add my two cents worth :-) Good luck!

Thanks, I should have given my system specs. I have an older SoundBlaster 16
card and I'm glad for your info.
For the record I guess. AMDK6-2 @ 33mhz, SB16 (real old), ATI Xpress98, Canopus
3dfx, 64meg ram, old programable CH Throttle, Suncom Talon stick and home made
rudder pedels. I had planned on mating the Talon hand grip with programable
keys to the Sidewinder FF base. I'm also thinking of building an inclosed
cockpit. Yup, my wife thinks I have completly lost it.

No problem. Hopefully a new sound card will fix your problems. I wasn't
too happy about having to buy a new sound card after I figured out the SB
16s aren't any good with them, but now that I've been playing all sorts
of games that support FF sticks I don't mind. Oh, and btw, if you're going
to be a simmer it's mandatory that your wife think you're nuts :-) Mine sure
does!

Before you buy a new soundcard just for the Sidewinder FF, try it out on your
existing one. I have an old ISA SB 16 and it works without a hitch.

Jon,
I have the FF joystick and it works great with no problems so far. I have
used it in several games and while not needed it adds a nice little touch.
Mike.
