Has anybody figured out how to use FS98 scenery with CFS?
I've tried the usual way through the Scenery library, no luck.
Could use some help!
Thank You!
Keep trying. The FS98 scenery (default and downloads) look the same but flying
them in CFS is nicer because you have a better horizon and sun glare and an
actual sun. Leave your FS98 scenery where it is -- no need to copy it. Just
tell CFS (in the Scenery library) the path to find it in exactly the same way
as with FS98, including using layering. To get to the Scenery library when you
are in 3D mode, you push Alt to get the bar on top. IF you want your default
USA airports to show up in the main Airfield menu, you have to activate the
regional default scenery (usgl, usse, ussw, etc), set them to Regional, and put
them just above (slightly lower number than) the Combat default scenery. Most
non-default downloaded scenery will show up in the "Advanced scenery" selection
just below the "Airfield" spot -- it seems that you have to set your plane at a
default location to start, then you can move it to an Advanced scenery location
by a press of the button.
Hope this helps -- it's late for me, past bedtime -- If needed, I'll offer a
more coherent explanation tomorrow. -- Cloudy --

Thanks for your advice on adding scenery. I must be thicker in the brain
than I thought. I tried your directions for adding the SoCal expansion
from FS98, but was unsuccessful. Not even close!
Any suggestions?
Paul -- I see what you mean. I have the SoCal expansion pack
scenery/texture/setup files in my FS98, but apparently never installed them.
Using the previous instructions that I posted also didn't work for me for that
particular scenery. I'll try to find my SoCal disk (needed to install the
scenery) and see if I can find the magic path to success -- If I do, I'll hop
back on the net and let you know. Did other scenery install ok for you? If
not, at what point does the process stall: Getting to the scenery library,
typing in the path, getting the second line to open up so you can give the
scenery a name, opening the Advanced scenery menu, seeing the airport names
there, etc. I'll watch for your post -- I might not be around Thursday (busy
schedule) but I'm likely to be here a lot Fri through Sunday. Of course others
may chime in, too. -- Cloudy --

I have been able to go to all the steps that you stated, but going to the
advanced scenery menu....no airport names of the files that I tried to
install. Thanks for responding back, good luck with SoCal!

Hi Paul, I haven't forgotten about you. I found my SoCal disk, installed it,
deactivated all other add on scenery to avoid confusion, and was able to find
the airports in the Advanced Scenery selection of CFS after directing CFS where
to find them. I re-read post 334 carefully to be sure I didn't tell you
anything wrong -- it's accurate. I'm not sure why you're not seeing the
airports -- especially if they work in FS98 -- A thought: You are clicking the
dot to the immediate left of Airfields, then clicking the little bar just below
called Advanced Scenery, right? Do your CFS default airfields show up?
Hopefully by posting this message, someone else will also jump in and help --
Keep trying -- Cloudy --

Paul, did you get it solved yet? Be sure to realize that when you start free
flight, you will not have the 'Advanced Scenery' choice there. But load into an
Airfield or location that is available, then push 'Alt' to get your command bar
on top, then find the 'Go To' choice, where you will be able to click on the
dot next to Airfields -- that activates the 'Advanced Scenery' option. That's
where the scenery will show up. -- Cloudy --

Thanks cloudy for all your help!
I was able to install the Pacific Northwest add-on, however I still cannot
get SoCal to work. I wonder if it has something to do with the scenery
being placed out of the flight simulator program, such as Pacific Northwest
is. It has its own folder, away from both MSFS and MSCFS.
