Ok, figure this one out. CFS installed beautifully, no problems whatsoever.
I have an MS Sidewinder 3D Pro hooked up. Game Controllers under Control
Panel sees it just fine. FS98 sees it just fine. But when I fire up CFS
and go to controller settings, it says the joystick is "Not Connected".
I can Alt-Tab over to control panel, and get to it just fine.
WTF???

Great, I see what I have to look forward to once I get the game :-(
Sorry I can't help you, but please keep us posted on your progress.

I had exactly the same problem with a Thrustmaster FCS stick. It would work in
the sim, but the panel showed it "not connected". I went into the Windoze
hardware config setings, deleted it from the hardware list and then "Added new
hardware", going through the rest of the "calibration" procedure". It showed up
fine, but didn't actually behave any differently than it did before. Whatever -
another sign of the superior intelliegence so manifest at Microsoft.

Funny you should mention that. I had some software problems yesterday
and had to reinstall a bunch of stuff, including some drivers, etc... Well,
now my FF stick is doing something about as odd. It'll work fine say, for
Monster Truck Madness 2 (very fun <G>), but then when I try to switch
over to FS 98 it shows up as a MS Gamepad and everything goes nuts in FS.
I'm puzzled. Going to try to delete the thing and start from scratch again,
but it didn't work before :-(

Hi Ron,
I had the same problem...it's the sound card - CFS doesn't recognize an 8 bit
sound card like the older sound blasters. I made my other sound card the
default in windows and it worked fine.
Hope that helps.

Also, as a followup since I haven't seen it - The M$ tech people said the
original problem with the disks was that when they were pressed some of the
files were outside of the readable area...they're going to send out 'fix' disks
if you request one.
Got my version from 4CD's a day or so ago and after the initial joystick prob
from above it worked just fine.

Yep, went back through the README file and found something about needing
to disable stereo sound mode and going to 11khz. That managed to fix the
issue. Really gotta have the joystick. Keyboard and mouse just didn't cut
it.

Ron,
Check out my message number 514. After doing this you may be able to edit your
cfg file back to stereo format. I was able to and everything works fine now. I
really enjoy the stereo sounds, especially the ones in CFS.

I have a Sitek cyborg stick. It was running flawlessly under Win95 but as soon
as I installed Win 98 It has very strange characteristics. I think my culprit
may be Win98.

That wouldn't surprise me one bit. I'm sure they made enough changes
in Win 98 (they better have, it was *my* $80!) that could easily
mess with something like that. Oh well, all in the name of progress, eh?
