I tried three times with the installation process stopping at 55% each time. It

gave me the error cannot copy "filename" to drive c:, check and see if you have

enough room. Well, this drive has over 5 gigs left, so I could not understand
the error. I attributed it to a bad cd read. I then installed using my laptop
and a ethernet lan I have connected. It went very slowly; but it worked. I
think there is a problem with this cd that is just out of tolerance for my
cd-rom drive. Any other similar problems ? I also do not seem to be able to
convert anything.

Joe...You hit the nail on the head. The problem is with the CD, not the program
on the CD. Interesting solution. As to using FS98 aircraft, just copy the
plane's directory over to CFS's \aircraft directory. Make sure you have the
panel and sound .cfg files pointing to a valid CFS aircraft panel and sound and
you're all set. Here's some examples for P-51 sounds and panel:

[fltsim]
alias=P51d\panel

[fltsim]
alias=P51d\sound

Pretty simple.

The first CD froze at 72% and the 2nd froze at 55%. Funny thing is, I
reinstalled DirectX from the CD and then reinstalled CFS successfully! However,
the game froze while loading missions, freeflight, combat...whatever.
I am amazed at how many people have tried workarounds. It's like the old pilots
did in 1913 to get their penguins airborne. Today, this is absolutely, totally
unacceptable. Specially from the likes of Microsoft, the BIGGEST company in
the S&P 500, and Bill Gates, the RICHEST man in the world. If this can happen,
I am now, officially VERY worried about Y2K!

Personally I have had one problem with CFS since buying it yesterday. It
locked my computer on the initial autoplay. After rebooting I installed and
have run it several times with no problems.

My only complaint is with handling. I doubt that a real P-51 stalls at
220knots in a 2G turn. That ME-109 in Quick Combat can turn inside me all day
since it takes 5 miles for me to turn. Any suggestions?

I would download and try some of the FS 98 aircraft that have been
made. Sounds like most of them have pretty good flight models. I don't have
CFS (yet <G>) so I really don't know how the airplanes that come with the sim
fly, but that's just my suggestion. Good luck!

I had the same problem on my system (stopping at 55 or 56%) but I kept trying
and after a while I got it to install. One thing I did was click on the cancel
button and then resuming the install. Maybe that re-aligns the cd??? But it
worked for me. A friend of mine never did get MSCFS installed... But here is a
copy of a post I just found that might shed some light on the problem.

I have noticed various site postings that up to 50% of CFS CD's are bad.
Microsoft is aware of this and is notifying distributors.

I think once again Microsoft is putting the $ before the customer.
