here we go again. just got cfs and after about i min sys locked up. got new cfs



same problem.. Called MS tech support and after many trials i was told that the


program will not work with certain CD Roms. the reason is that many CD roms
will not read to the end of the disk.I asked what they were going to do about
this and was told they are researching the problem.im not going out and buy a
new CD Rom so i hope all works for you guys.they also said they were having
problems with this firt batch and will release a new one on 4 Nov. Lots of luck

Don't feel too bad. I had the exact same problem with WIN98!!!! Returned it
after MS "tech" (???) people said some CD-ROMs would not read it. Funny, this
24X Sony reads everything else I can throw at it. Anyway, I'm sorry you can't
get cfs up - it is really great. I've had a ball just flying the aircraft
around. And the scenery! Looks about as good as Flight Unlimited II - maybe a
bit better. I set a dusk light cloud coverage day and the sun "splash" effects
are really life-like. Very much nicer than FS98.

WHere did you get it????????

Howdy, I bought my copy at Electronics Boutique today. My copy locked up when
it initially went to the startup screen (music etc.). I think I had my display
set to 1024x768 16 color. I reset my display to 1024x768 256 color and it
loaded right up with no problem. I have a monster 3D card and the graphics are
great. So far so good....haven't done any combat flying yet, just free flight,
getting used to the different keystrokes and joystick configurations. Have a
good flight....RB..

Hi:

I had the same problem. Tried to install the program twice using different cds
and both time was only able to have 55% of the files copied. I'm lucky that
the store I buy a lot of software at (Electronic Boutique, aka: EBX) will
refund or replace within ten days. I agree with you. I am not going to buy
another CD Rom. I hope that Microsoft gets its act together on this sim
quickly.

Richard, sorry to learn that you are having problems running the sim.
There was nothing in the manual that I found that would indicate the need
for a special CD-ROM. During the test and evaluation of the sim, I used a
stock Creative Labs 8X Speed and never had a problem with the machine
locking up. My system is a P166 with 65MB Ram ATI TURBO PRO accelerator
card M$ Sidewinder Force Feed Stick and CH Virtual Pro yoke and rudder
combo. All went well except for unusually low fps.

*that* terribly bad on his old 100, but he didn't specify. I'll be running it
on an AMD K6-2 333 and a Viper 330 AGP card when I get my paws on it. I'm
hoping I'll see some great performance, but I'm not sure!!!???

Aaron...I have CFS up on a 200mmx / 64mb / Viper 330 (PCI) at the moment. I'm
seeing almost identical frame rates as I see on MS FS98 - about 14 (with all
density options on high settings) to about 40 at altitude. BTW, buy the Viper
550 16mb AGP or STB version. They are verrrrry fast! I have the STB variety on
a PII 350 and I regularly see frame rates near 100fps (40 on the ground) in MS
FS98.

Hi, Aaron, it has been a long, long time. I think I can clear up your
problem with the system. I ran the review test on the Beta Version and
I am using a Packard Bell P166MHz with 64MB of ram. The 3D card is ATI
TURBO PRO w/4MB and the CD-ROM was (is) Creative Labs 8X Speed. Every
section of the program that I evalutated worked without any hang ups or
really bad performance other than poor fps. The hesitations are there,
but they do no seem to detract from the sim's performance. I used both
stick and yoke and pedals. The stick is M$ Force Feed and the yoke/pedals
CH Virtual Pilot Pro.

Aaron...I'm thinking the same thing. Not because I'm not sold on the RIVA TnT,
but because some programs run better under 3DFX. The AGP video bus makes a huge
difference in frame rate speeds - at least for me. I figure a TnT with a
piggyback Voodoo 2 might just be the best of both worlds.

That would make a great setup. I've got a friend who is a computer
consultant/wholesaler, and he was trying to sell me the parts to do
that. I think I'll wait a while before doing so....so much harware,
so little money, you know how it goes <G>

I had the same problem -- restarted the load about ten times -- it finally
worked with a 2x cd-rom drive which came with the micron i'm running

i am getting!!! I want 40-50fps on cfs like fs98 !!! they think that we all

I had the same problem where the first time I got the disk it only installed it

I just sent that copy back and got another one from Electronic Boutique.
Hey, don't listen to what MS tech support says. The CDs are inherently
buggy. I know. My second copy installed perfectly. Just have Best Buy get
you another copy. There must be ONE copy that works with your machine.

Well just sifting thru all the messages seem half the people installed just
fine the other half ran into the same problem I did. CFS will install up to the


55% mark then stall, I called MS Support and found out that if you have a
DVD/CD-ROM player you will get this bug!! Also in trobleshooting this problem
with the Tech I found out that my Goldstar 8X cdrom exhibits the same symtoms
he suggested I get another copy So off to Best Buy I went and got anotheer copy


same thing!. However in talking to MS again they will send you another copy
with a fix if you want to wait approx. 5-6 weeks. Oh well I waited this long.
By the way Best Buy's policy is you can exchange defective software forever but


they will not give you your money back!!
My tech support person sugested copying the whole CFS CD-ROM to my HD and
installinf from there. Also turning down the DR-ROM Speed to the absolute
lowest settings.
It took a l o n g time to copy.
Don't give up on copying unless yoou get an error message. It was worth the
wait.
