Search the web for a "DX Killer". I had a simular problem and had to use a "DX
Killer" program to remove DirectX 8.0 but I don't remember where I found it.

I recently installed DX7 and FS98 now locks up in every scenery after about one
minute in the air. In the past, one could get into control panel, click on the
DX icon, and there would be an active button allowing the re-installation of
the previous DX files. This option is not available since the DX7
installation-it is not an active button. I'm clueless as to how one could go
about re-installing the previous DX files-in this case reverting to DX6.1?
I'm running on Windows 98 SE and several other game program are also freezing
which leaves no option but to reboot the machine. I'm hoping someone can help
me with this new MS disappointment. Thanks.
