Ok I've installed FS98 on an AMD-K6 II machine w/450mhz chip. I have 256 megs
of ram. I am using currently an "onboard" AGP 2x 8meg shared graphics card with
a Trident chipset, and I have the current version of Direct X (8.1) installed.
I am using a Thrustmaster Platinum Analog stick w/ the throttle control.
I get good frame rates with the scenery and all settings to the max on 800x600
16 bit mode (25-50plus).
I did a complete fresh install (everything on the harddrive). Before I ever
played it, I installed the Microsoft Patch, and the Flight shop converter. I've
installed 2 scenery packages per directions on the FAQ (Sacramento, and Groom
Lake Nevada).
When I fly, especially doing acrobatics, large sections of the sky turns black.
This happens in full screen and windowed modes. Also, as I approach the clouds
they are huge blocks, even though I have "wispy cloud effects" checked. Also, I
have 3D performance checked using DirectX. Everything does not look very 3-D to
me haha.
Another problem, my sound stutters as I play and it causes intermittant pauses
in the frame rate flow. It does not happen constantly, but frequently when I do
acrobatics approach a denser scenry.
I am using a VIA on board sound controller. I tested it in the dxdiag.exe and
it said it worked fine. It is not sharing an IRQ with anything. I play MP3's
all the time...no problems there. I reinstalled my sound drivers, upgraded to
the latest VIA Motherboard drivers, all to no avail.
Next question...
Does anyone have a file that has ALL of the keyboard commands in a handy dandy
few pages that I can just print out and keep next to me.
Also, if anyone can explain FS98 clouds in plain english, i'd appreciate it. I
read the directions...done what it says, and I don't see anything different. (I
have the cloud problems above even without doing this and before doing this
btw).
Does anyone have a file or know of a site that explains very slowly to a total
idiot how to navigate from one airport to another airport.
Thanks!
