I just started running the newest Flight Shop
(including the update patch) with CD 5.1. Wonderful
but...

Eight times out of ten, when I fly out of Portland,
Maine, FS ATC tells me I departed the wrong runway and
turns off my engine (permanently, until I exit and
restart FS5). Now, I fly a real 172 out of PWM and
I know damn well I left from the right runway. Besides,
there are great big numbers on the end!

I've tried reloading the database files, no change.
The few adventures that work, always work. The ones
that don't work, never work. Refiling sometimes results
in an adventure that works. I've checked the runway
alignments in the data base. I've tried a couple
different PWM sceneries. Going to a different runway
on adventurers that don't work still results in an ATC
message and engine failure.

It's great practice for engine failures on take off -
BUT, someday I want to fly somewhere.

Robert;
You have to go into your ATC workshop and click on database. After this
click on runways and look up the particular runway you are using. The runway
number and the runway heading are not the same thing as you can see in "red
print" at the bottom of the window you have to subtract or add the magnetic
variable for the location you are at. I live in Canada and have acess to Pilots
manuals for where I live. Probably someone else on this forum will give you the
magnetic variable for you airport.
