Hi Joe,
If you are really worried, consult an attorney, because the thoughts on this
matter really are of legal nature.
That said, a few observations, are you going to sell these models? If you are
doing this as a hobby like I am, then you might want to include a statement
such as " strictly for use as a hobby , no commercial intent ". The real
manufacturers probably have better things to do with legal funds than go after
a hobbiest? There are a lot of planes posted here without the approval of a
manufacturer. If you contact them, they won't likely return your inquirey (my
experience, maybe they just don't like me??). I would not do anything which
casts an undue reflection on a particular aircraft ( the Tailorcraft
Biguglyrock would not be a good choice for an aircraft name ). If you do a
decent job of modeling the aircraft, they will probably silently whisper hooray
for the free publicity.
If you are going to sell the models, consult your attorney.
This free advice is worth every penny you paid for it ( I don't know anything
about legal advice, so these opinions are totally worthless).
Bob

I'm a newcomer in aircraft design and I'm using FSDS. Can anybody tell me if I
need to call a real aircraft manufacturer to rebuild one of his aircraft? Or
tell me please how do YOU handle that problem! Is it a copyright violation to
rebuild someones aircraft and release it as freeware?

I made the same experience like you did! I just wanted to know how other hobbyists handle it. Since I'm not intended to produce commercially, I'll foolow your FREE, not binding advice and proceed.
Thanks for your thoughts and infos about that subject.
