an *.r8 file is an *.*af file, so the same converter works. COnvR8 shold work,
as well as texbmp
Hope this helps

To All,
Need some help here, I can work with everything else, BMP and AF files pretty
comfortably, but I'm not sure how to handle or convert "r8" aircraft texture
files for repainting. Is there a program on the net or on the shelf that works
directly or converts "r8" files for retouching/painting?
Thanks,

Felix,
Thanks for the quick response. I have TEXBMP amd a couple of other convertors
but I thought I tried some conversions without success. On TEXBMP, I was able
to look at the files but unable to convert them back to "r8" after editing. I
am going to look for "CONVR8" for download and give it a try. At least I know
I'm going in the right direction.
Thanks,

I use texbmp.exe by Luis Vieira de Sa' http://www.it.uc.pt/~luis/fltsim.html
and it will convert an r8 to bmp to r8 with no problem.

Robert; There are several hiding right here!{G} Try a search for 'R8Paint' in
the FS5/FS95 utilities to get started. If that doesn't work, just rename your
R8 to a .#af extension. Both file types are the same as far as graphics.

MAybe it's possible, if M$ were to share the detailed model information. Given
what is known, no, it's not possible... OF course If you were to make a logo
for an airline like "Angola International Airways" and use straight block
lettering, it wouldn't matter - AIA will come out correctly,

Hello there!
My name is Marc Berndsen, 44 years of age and living in The Netherlands.
A few days ago I've download an aircraft for FS2000 Professional Edition.
File tnva734.zip. It is a Boeing 737-400 from Trans Netherlands VA.
It is a repaint of the default Boeing 737-400.
Looking around the aircraft I saw, that the Tail Logo on the right side
of the plane was in typ reflected face. After sending an e-mail to the
maker I received the answer, that it is not possible with repainted
models to fix that problem.
I think, that he probably don't know how to fix it.
So, my question is:
Do anyone know? Can I fix it myself? I'm not a developer and not
experienced with making aircrafts. And maybe I can put the solution on
another e-mail to the maker, so he can fix it.
I would be glad with any help.
Greetings from The Netherlands to all Flight Simmers!

I've never tried to repaint a default aircraft before. I did not realise that
all the texture was on one file. Presumably MS can program the model to use the
tail piece twice. However, I very quickly solved the problem the only way I
think it can be done. The result looks good but it may not be what you want.
Contact me with your e-mail address and I will send you a new BMP. Move the
original out of the folder to a safe place, slide mine in and you will have an
acceptable TNVA plane!

Felix,
I downloaded CONVR8 and the latest version of TEXBMP called TEXBMP2 last night.
I will check the site you recommended below to make sure that I have the latest
version. I also downloaded several other texture utilities. I'm going to give
TEXBMP2 another try as I'm sure I'll figure it out.
Thanks again

Rob {using our first names will confuse Felix}{G}; Yeah, I should have
remembered TexBMP2. I find it to be the best of the lot, but it takes some
planning. One thing to keep in mind is to be careful with which colors you
choose. You can by-pass the dreaded "black textures" {which occur if you select
a color outside the palette} by converting the textures from an add-on plane
with colors you want to use. Just use your color picker on the add-on plane's
converted BMPs and transfer those colors to your repaint. It saves on trips to
the ER if you have a tendancy to pull out your hair when frustrated/PO'd.{G}

Hello Gerry,
Thank you for your reply.
Nice to offer me an alternative!
I would like to take your offer and than let's see how it looks.
Please send the BMP to: m-berndsen@tref.nl
I will surely reply through e-mail.
Again, thanks for your offer.

Roberto Volador....
If you're using a program like PSP, or another than can import/save the
standard FS5 color palette, it's highly recommended - if you're doing repaints
for FS98 that is.
If it's a repaint for FS2K, once you've converted the af or r8s to bmps, you
can leave them as bmps and just rename them back to the original af or r8
names.
(Just don't use the model in FS98 again)
