The last four flights I've made have ended suddenly 3-5 hours into them (they were all long-distance) with a message in a pop-up box: "FS2002 has encountered a problem and needs to close." When I look at the details it says: "AppName: fs2002.exe; AppVer 8.0.0109.9; ModName: fsupc.dll; ModVer: 2.8.3.0; Offset 00017bc9" What does this mean? Has anyone else had this experience? I've made plenty of long-distance flights successfully, and though I've had this same problem maybe twice before it hasn't been for a while. Now four consecutive times! So I've wasted all the time getting the flight going only being unable to finish it. I ran my anti-virus scan but found no viruses. I've made no changes to my settings in the game lately. Any suggestions would be most welcome guys. I'd really appreciate it.

Thats really strange. I was just about to post about the same problem. It happened to me on a flight from DFW to Salt Lake. I was using a repainted 737. Went to watch the replay of my landing and BAM!! Error, it wanted me to send the message to Microsoft. I did and BAM the whole computer froze up. Seems to me, if I stay inside the cockpit and dont do a replay it wont freeze. Anyone know whats goin on with us?

Obviously a problem with FSUIPC ver. 2.83 (?)
I was getting ready to install ver. 2.84. Read the History.doc just now. You weren't running Real Weather were you? Apparently there is an obscure bug in 2.83 that might cause a crash under certain circumstances involving Real Weather, random cirrus and/or jet trail cloud layer. If so, get the update. If not...anyone else have any ideas???

Yes I was running Real Weather--but then I have most of the time before when I didn't get the crash. So does that really explain the four crashes in a row? And, sorry for a stupid question, but how do I "get the update"--that is, how do I install 2.84?

Might it help to simply reinstall the whole game?

Please download and replace your FSUIPC DLL file with the newest version 2.842 at http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html (28th March)

This happened to me 3 or 4 times last weekend...I correlated it to running ATC....I have a much earlier version of FSUIPC running....I believe in the saying if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Thanks for the advice. I hope there are some directions accompanying the download as to how to find the DLL file and replace it. (Is it in the aircraft.cfg file? I've tried opening the aircraft .cfg file (with Notepad) but haven't been able to do it.)

Installing is a piece of cake.

The files fsuipc.dll and fsuipc.ini are in the FS2k2\modules folder. Delete both. Copy the new .dll into the modules folder. Start FS2K2, pick any flight, start the flight and then pause the sim. Hit the "alt" key and in the top menu, under modules, click on fsuipc. Hit the "defaults" button and close (this regenerates the ini file). That's it.

I reinstalled the game, tried a flight, and the same ##### thing happened again. Five times in a row, and with a different aircraft each time!

http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html was a dead link when I tried it, so I couldn't get the updated, new dll file...

No it's not related to ATC, at least not in my experience. I've had the problem even without touching ATC.

The link is dead...I get nothing there, and nothing at simply http://www.schiratti.com either...

I have no suggestion for the fix or cause (other than update the .dll as mentioned before), but you might try saving the flight at some set interval (15 min or so??) so you can at least restart from the point of the last save. If it continues to happen at the same place it might indicate a scenery problem of some type (although I don't know what that might be).

Good luck - let us know if you fix it.

Yeah I thought it might be a scenery problem too at first, but then it's happened on five different flights, i.e., flying different places. I'd love to get the update, but the page is dead. FS2002: As surreal as it gets.

Well, I updated to the FSUIPC ver. 2.83 started flight sim with the real weather, landed at my destination airport, went to watch the replay of my landing, and, you guessed it, it gave me an error. Any other ideas on what this might be?
