Wondering if someone can give me a hand...I want to insert new ATIS scrolling
text files at some default FS2K airports that don't have one yet. I've
downloaded the EasyNavs utility and the FS2K scenery SDK, I just have to get
them working together now.
The problem I'm having is getting the default scenery BGL files decompressed
properly from FS so EasyNavs can read and convert them to text files. After
running BGLZIP from the SDK, I can do the syntax mostly OK, but don't
understand some of the error messages and have no idea where any decompressed
files may have been routed to (if, in fact, they even were decompressed.)
I guess my main questions are:
1) Does anyone know the correct sequence/syntax for decompressing FS2K default
bgl files with the SDK?
2) If the file you want to decompress doesn't actually contain any existing
ATIS info for EasyNavs to extract/convert, will EasyNavs still open it and
allow you to create a stand-alone ATIS bgl to add to the default scenery?
3) Is it true that FS2K has it's ATIS files info in the "facilities" portion of
the scenery coding?
I think I'm in a little over my head on this one <L>. So how about it, can anyone
help out a struggling neophyte? The FAQ's on this basically end at the
instructions to download EasyNavs.

HELLO DAN,
An easier method may be to use a scenery design program, such as Airport, which
is available here:
http://ourworld.cs.com/_ht_a/AirportSupport/id17.htm
Ensure you download the proper/necessary file(s).
Although it is for creating complete airports, and thus pretty extensive, you
can get by with just the minimal information required to make a scenery file
(*.bgl) which includes the coordinates, elevation, etc., ususally called the
"Header". Then access the ATIS menu; fill it in as you like; compile (create)
the *.bgl file and place that file in the Main Scenery Folder, or a scenery
folder of your choice.
A note here: you are limited to the number of characters that can be placed in
the 'message'; therefore you need to be able to get the message across in the
fewest words possible.
Good luck.
