Locking fps allows your computer to free more resources for other aspects of fsk2k. I have only 256megs ram on 1 gig computer and a geforce2w with 64 megs of ram...not exactly your system...but, I set fps lock at 16 and am rather satisfied. Even with fps dip down into the upper single digits or low teens it is an acceptable simulation. FWIW, I think we put too much emphasis on the actual frame rate numbers and should be focusing more on acceptable performance. As long as the illusion of motion works, why worry about the numbers?

I lock my frame rates to 20, this helps to reduce the peaks as the frame rates peak and trough and maintains a more steady rate.
You could increase this to 100 but you would see a decline performance
as the frame rates move 0 to 100 set it to what ever gives best visual performance and when you've done this never ever ever press sht+z+z again ever. Hope this is of some use

LAST EDITED ON Mar-20-02 AT 01:17PM (EDT)[p]10fps is a litle low, especially on your machine which should be half decent. I have a lower spec than you and lock mine at 20fps. Anything over that really doesn't benefit you in anyway on this sim.
I find anything less than 10 isn't really acceptable, too jerky, I would put yours up to 18-20 if I were you.
