Does anybody know why the runways of airports are shown on the GPS screen rotated by 180 degrees? I saw this in FS9 and this bug is not corrected in FSX.
For example:
If you are on runway 25L KLAS Las Vegas you should see on your GPS screen, runway 25R right of you position and in front also on the right side 1L and 1R . But they are shown on the left and 1L and 1R is already behind your position.
Same if you are on runway 25L EDDF Frankfurt Germany. Runway 25R should be shown on the right side and 18 should be shown ahead and left from your position. But 25R is shown left and 18 behind and right.
The ILS is shown on the correct position. I have the impression that the runways are rotated 180 degrees around the centre of the airport.
Does anybody know if a fix for this bug is available?
thanks for your help
Stefan

It's not a "bug!" If you'd checked the Learning Center and read the instructions for the GPS you'd have read this:
Map Page
The second NAV page, the Map page, displays your current position (an airplane symbol in the center of the screen), along with nearby airports, navigation aids, airspace boundaries, lakes, and coastlines. Whereas the Default NAV page is oriented with the current GPS track up, the Map page is oriented with north up.
..\FSWeb\LearningCenter\Navigation\UsingTheGPS.htm
The real Garmin GNS430 and GNS530 also have several other orientations available, but the FS version only has these two.

Hello Bill,
thanks fort he quick reply. Most probably I have not expressed correctly what I mean. Sorry english is not my mother tongue and so it is easier for me to explain what I mean with the help of some pictures.
FSX Approach EDDF 25L.bmp
shows the gps and the mfd during approach to EDDF 25L. In that case the direction of the heading 250° is up.
MAP EDDF.bmp
shows exactly the same situation but north is up.
If you look on the MAP EDDF.bmp the airport EDFE is nearly south and on the gps and mfd it is shown correctly left of the position of the aircraft.
As you can see on the map the airport has 3 runways. Two are parallel 25R and 25L and 18. 18 starts at the end (west) of 25R and goes south.
If you look on FSX Approach EDDF 25L.bmp the mfd and gps show the runway 18 on the right side of the axis of the aircraft. It looks as if the runway 18 starts at the beginning of 25R (east) and goes north of 25R. But this is not the situation shown on the map.
Corrected Approach 25L.bmp
In this picture I have rotated the runways and now the situation of Runway 18 shown on gps , mfd and on the map is the same. In my opinion this would be the correct way to show the runways of the airport
In my opinion this is a bug in the gps gauge showing the runways rotated by 180 degrees.
I hope I could express better what I mean. Sorry for my terrible english.
Best regards
Stefan

Okay, I see what you mean there with those pictures.
I see the same thing in both FS9 and FSX.
The airport icon seems to be misdrawn at that particular airport, probably because of a database error...
I've never seen anything like this at other airports. In any event, all of that is beyond anyone's control, as the data is only fetched from the internal databases of flightsim by the gps.dll module.
All the "GPS gauge" does is ask the gps.dll to "send it a picture" for display... what the gauge receives is what gets shown on the screen.

Hi Bill,
Thanks that you took time to understand what I mean.
I think that this bug is at every airport. The runway symbols of the airport are rotated by 180 degrees around the centre of the airport.
But if you have one runway or two runways parallel and they are rotated 180 degrees around their centre you don’t see a difference.
At all airports where you have a runway layout which is not symmetric to the centre you can see the same effect.
For example:
KLAS 25L
KOAK 29
KCLE 10
KIAH 8L
KPIT 10L
That is why I think that it is a bug in the code of the gps. I could imagine that the programmer has forgotten to add or to subtract 180 degrees in the code which brings the runways to the display.
I will try to understand the code of the gps to find out more.
Best regards
Stefan

Were that true, the my "home airports" of KGYY, KMDW and KORD would exhibit the same behavior.
Again though, all this takes place inside the gps.dll file. There is absolutely NOTHING you or anyone else can do to change that...
