View Full Version : ATC won't use certain runways

I've come across an interesting issue with my redesign of KMCO...

So far, the visual aspect looks great. The new runway and taxiways are in and working. AI use the new runway and I've even dabbled with the .bgl file to activate the ILS with a nice approach to one end of the new runway (thought I'd try one to get it to work, then add the other end).

Now, however, no matter what the weather/wind direction is, ATC will ALWAYS have aircraft land in one direction (heading to the South, in this case), even with a 50 kt tailwind! It seems that for whatever reason, ATC doesn't allow planes to land or take off heading north (all 4 runways at KMCO are N-S).

I've double-checked AFCAD and the runways are all "open" for t/o's and landings, and all the original approach and ils info is there and intact within the .bgl file.

Help? Suggestions? (also, it seems that although PAI is back up and running, I don't get a confirmation email to activate a user account, so hopefully this may make it over there!)

Thank Microslop <sp> for this one.. in their desire to make FS 'flyable' by newbies they built the ATC algorithms around the Idiot Landing System, figuring that it was better (more impressive?) to be able to fly a coupled approach to the ground and crash than to fly manually to the proper runway and land with your passengers alive.

Ya can't beat it either, although you may be able to trick it by putting an ILS on the opposite end of each runway you want to use... sure it's not 'realistic' but either is is "Cleared for an ILS rwy 34 Approach, wind 255 at 30" with a runway 25 in existance. If you are able to ask for an approach to the into wind runway you'll still get told to circle to land on the ILS runway.

2 equal runways, no approach - any runway works
2 equal runways, 1 ILS - the ILS wins 100% of the time

If anyone has an answer I've never seen it

Just remember - in spite of what we'd like to think, to Microsoft this is a GAME.
