After reading all the horror stories here about the patch and thinking long and hard, I did it. I downloaded and installed the patch. I kept my add-ons and just went for it.
The results are a resounding GOOD. Not great, good.
Which is why I decided to post this. It seems, after reading all the complaints, hurrahs and praises, that nobody is really looking at the pure facts of the case. FSX is a HUGE program compounded by the constant variable of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of real world pc variables. I have a mid level pc. Dual core, ATI-800 card and plenty of HD amd memory. Beyond that, beats me. I built it myself (with a lot of help from a geek friend)as a gaming machine. It runs all the big games, Doom, Quake, BF2, etc. great. And FSX runs really good! But not perfect.
My point is that everybody has a pc with many variables. So the results of SP1 are going to be...varied. I think maybe we were expecting SP1 to solve all of the little glitches in one fell swoop. I don't know yet. I for one am pretty happy with the additional FPS. I was very impressed with the upped FPS at night.
In my real world job, I work with programmers daily and was trained in programming in ladder logic so I have a vague idea that what these FSX programmers are doing is nothing short of phenominal.
I guess this is a long winded "atta boy" to MS. Thanks.
