View Full Version : Unpredictable Jetways

I have experienced this for a while:
Display settings as required, Aircraft centered on the line of the parking space with the nose wheel on the "Stop" line, Retracted Jetway visible on the same side as the aircraft exit, same Aircraft, (B737-800), same airport.
Sometimes the jetways will respond to the "CTRL J", sometimes they just sit there. The only things different seem to be the parking gates.
I have also let the "World" menu place the airplane in the parking gate, same results.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Some jetways move very slowly based on computer specs.
Some Jetways are not coded properly and are assigned a different parking spot then the one you are sitting at.
If the Jetway does not appear to move then I suggest going into outside topdown view and zoom out. Look for a Jetway somewhere else at the airport that is moving. This will tell you if another Jetway is coded to the wrong parking spot.

What sized gates are you parking at?
If you park at a small gate with a small aircraft - the jetway will be within reach of the aircraft.
If you park at a heavy gate with a small aircraft - the jetway may not be within reach of the aircraft.
Second question - are these default FSX airports, or are you using modified airport files - either FS2004 AFCAD or some listed as FSX AFCAD on the web sites available for download?
There are many FSX files which were not made with XML and do not keep the required coding to match the jetway to the parking spot.
In FSX you cannot change a Gate name without changing the Jetway association code. i.e. parking spot Gate G 4 has a specific Jetway assigned only to that parking spot. If the gate code is change to Gate A 7 because that is 'realistic' and the jetway code is not changed - the two will not work.
Also, each gate code linked to a jetway code must be unique for the airport. Cannot have two Gate A 7 on the airport.

This is using default scenery, airports, and aircraft, and always at a "medium" parking gate. As far as I can tell all conditions are the same, and sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I will try using a "small" gate though to see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for the reply.

The Jetway traveling speeds do vary according to how much other activity is going on in the vicinity at the time, but the ones I have a problem with will not move no matter how long I wait.
I will try your top-down view idea and see if there is a coding problem.

Which airports and which parking spots would help track it down. We can look at the code to see if there might be an error.
