I just installed this aircraft, the FSX FSDZigns Lockheed 049A Constellation into FSX.

Usually I put everything in manually, but I made the mistake of following the instructions which state: "just unzip to your FSX/simobjects/airplanes folder". I did this and rather than originate an unique aircraft folder for the plane, it installed all the separate folders/files in individually (and yes I had folders checked in winzip). No biggy right? WRONG!

I cannot now startup FSX.

I removed all of the items installed (double checking the zip file to be sure of the ID's) and still cannot get FSX to startup.

If you install this aircraft, ignore the instructions and be sure that you put in a unique Constellation aircraft folder into your FSX airplanes folder and unzip to the folder you originated, NOT the airplanes folder.

Respectfully:
RTH

Edit:

Correction:

The problem was not with the bird, although I would still recommend manual installation due to the above scenario. I am sure the plane will work fine with a manual installation. My problem was with FSUIPC4 for some reason. I had recently installed the new version. I removed the dll and FSX starts up fine.

I apologize for the confusion.

RTH,
Do you have the utility Autothumbnail installed? If so I found that it caused CTD's after I had installed FSUIPC4. I renamed the Autothumbnail's xml.dll adding .bkp then installed FSUIPC, registered and then went back and renamed the xml.dll to it's original. All works well now even Autothumbnail.
This may not be relevant to your problem but just in case...

Thanks Gary.

I will give that a try as sure nuff, I do have Autothumbnail installed.

I suspect that this only applies to the new Verion 4.09 of FSUIPC. I reinstalled Version 4.08 and it worked fine, and that was just a few mins. ago without doing anything to Autothumbnails.

Thanks again:

Probably something to do with simconnect conflict which Autothumbnail will have to address. Pete at: http://forums.simflight.com/viewforum.php?f=54
discusses this in some of the threads in that forum.
cheers

Hello again Gary:

You nailed my problem, but I had to take a slightly different action.

On my system, I had to uninstall Autothumbnail which was no big undertaking (renaming the dll did not work for me). I then installed FSUIPC4 4.09 with no problem

For anyone else doing this, be sure to startup FSX before reinstallation of Autothumbnail. In my case FSUIPC was an upgrade, so no license authorization was required. If this is your first installtion of FSUIPC, you need to go through that simple procedure.

The reason I discovered was this: When the error was present, there was a window that flickered on just before FSX shutdown, and I never could read enough of it to see what it said. I could see that "Run" was an option and that it regarded FSUIPC. AFter I uninstalled Autothumbnail, that window held until I addressed it during FSX startup. It was the question for the new dll just like gauge files that asked did I want to run it, and then retain it (Yes of course in both cases).

After I shut FSX down, I reinstalled Autothumbnail and everything seems to be back to normal.

Happy flying:
