Well, I sent this to tell_fs last night, figured maybe some other folks might also be interested. Seems like it would be easy to implement with the current AI structure. Heck, for all I know, someone may have already found a way to do this. I haven't seen it though.

Allow AI flightplans to run on a yearly cycle. Use the same system as we have now, except add another cycle option to allow the flightplan to only repeat on a yearly basis. This would allow us to simulate things like rallies and other flying events that only happen once a year.

Imagine Oshkosh. Instead of simply having a scenery that simply places a lot of static aircraft there at the time, we could have a whole bunch of GA planes start flying there from various places. These would start something like a month before Oshkosh, and would build up until there are hundreds of AI planes flying to the show during it's duration. This number would of course depend on processor power. Then, after it's over, all those planes begin flying back to wherever they came from. The next year, it would start all over again.

We could also try doing things like air shows, with a number of aircraft doing touch and gos at an airport. Or simulate AI competitors in something like the Great Aussie Air Rally, of which I am a participant.

If we could combine this with an improved upon AI track system like was used in the older sims, then we could really simulate airshows, complete with display teams doing aerobatics. I guess that's a little far fetched though.

Anyhow, this is my idea. Anyone else think it's a good idea? If so, post, maybe we can get MS to think about it. If it's already been done, where can I get it? This is something I have wanted ever since I learned how to mod AI traffic.

Later,
Cory
