If you look closely at some of the pics, the ground textures look -worse- than that of FS2004 at maximum settings.
For example this one - look at the nearby rocks, not even low-altitude noise is added to the textures:
<speculation> So I presume they are intentionally hiding something, keeping something
up their sleeves to show at a later time, nearing completion. </speculation>

I agree. Maybe if they increase the tree's numbers to cover up that old mesh it wouldn't look so fs2004. However I do to think they are working on another mesh for fsx.

I for one am abit dissapointed at what ive seen so far. I was expecting Xplane new scenery package type detail on the new flight sim, things are looking poor so far in comparison.
Hey thats just my opinion though.

My first thought was that I was merely looking at COF with some of the third party payware scenery I've bought. I'm not foaming at the mouth yet but I'll stay tuned.

I remember the first screenies of FS2004 being pretty grainy compared to how I run it (and even how I ran it at release).
I also remember ALMOST going with the "looks like FS2002 with minor optimizations" crowd...
Yeah, on screenshots, but once I had FS2004 in my hand that myth was busted pretty quickly...
