Microsoft to finally bite the bullet and finally stop using false advertisement with the phrase: "As real as it gets".

They are totally misleading when rival aviation sim programs offer FAA approved standings when combined with the correct hardware. Like myself, there are a lot of pilots looking for realism, not just a lie. It shouldn't be up to 3rd party individuals that have their jobs, families and other commitments on top of their flight sim hobby to be the ones who break the barrier and create the great add-ons. Does microsoft not feel any responsibility to up hold their end of the bargain when they state: "As real as it gets". Because it sure doesn't right out of the box. Aviation and the ATC system isn't something people learn right away, it takes time to build knowledge and skill.

That is very very well said Dan...I was thinking about that, very ironic for FS's slogan 'As Real As it Gets' when we don't even get real airlines!!! I'm not critisising Microsoft, but it's the truth, we're getting software with just a 'world' but it's up to third party people (Mostly freware in my case) that bring the 'Real as it gets' and the really fun experience home...With really well designed scneries, aircraft, etc. We shouldn't have to download or pay for a nice a true 'As Real as it Gets'

Again, well done! :)

>when we don't even get real airlines!!!

That is understood because of copyright issues. But the airplanes that are "certified" by their respective companys don't even fly right. The 172 is the most basic plane of modern times and they can't even get it to fly right. You would think that myself, a pilot with over 200hrs of 172 time, would be able to fly the default 172 but I can't because the fde is bad. I just can't believe that M$ can legally say: "As real as it gets".

i think the term "as real as it gets" probably means more like the most real PC game version of a flight simulator. FS 2004 is the most real PC flight simulator i have played. You cant really take it literally, they do their best to make it real but you have to always remember that you are looking at a flat computer screen which is creating 3D objects that are trying to be like "real life". Think about tha for a second and then think how hard it is for them to make it so close to reality. They can do some small tweaks for the next flight sim but it wont get much more realistic than that.

Is that why X-plane combined, with elite hardware controls, is ok'd by the FAA to be used as a training device.

Can you pilot a plane, instead of programming an FMC to do it for you?
