Did anyone succeed using Doug Dawson's wonderful dsd_xml_sound3 gauge in FSX? I found version 3.7 on AVSIM and the description said "should" work with FSX, but so far I only manage to crash the sim on loading the plane.

I can have a look at this, but I'm afraid it won't be soon, as I will be out of town for the next couple of weeks. I will try to do some more extensive testing after the Labour Day weekend. It is certainly possible that I have missed something...

I sent you an email to your netscape.net address earlier today, please disregard that one.
Take your time, it's not a case of emergency. As long as I know that you'll be at it someday I can live with having no sound in FSX and battle all the other incompatibilities the Aces team has provided for us. It is good to know that I placed my bet on the right module though.
Some observations that might help in debugging: If either the path to the dsd_xml_sound.ini in the panel.cfg, or ALL paths to the sound files in the dsd_xml_sound.ini are wrong (no such files), then it doesn't crash. Also, some of my switches monitor their own (L:...) and the corresponding (A:...) variables in order to emit the "click" even if the pilot uses keyboard assignments. If loading a saved flight requires to flip a switch right on startup (like pitot heat was on when saving), I can hear that click right before FSX crashes without the panel ever making it to the screen.
My conclusion: If there are no sounds or no ini, dsd_xml_sound short circuits itself and doesn't waste CPU cycles. Let me guess, there is an "if (...) break;" at the beginning of "case PANEL_SERVICE_PRE_DRAW:", right? If so, the bug sits somewhere inside that code path.
Thanks, and thanks for a great piece of software.

Hi Jan,
As a "power-user" :-) of many of Doug's great gauges, I recall I had the same problem when I used older (FS9) versions of the dsd_xml_sound3 in FSX.
When I released my Groundhandling package for FSX, Doug did solve a problem in this gauge, which he released as a signed (FSX) .dll to me, as version V3.8.1.0 (I don't think Doug released this version publically).
I included this version in my Groundhandling package rcbgh-50.zip (as file RCB-Groundhandling5.dll) in the flightsim/avsim library.
As far as I (and many simmers that use this package) can tell, this version V3.8.1.0 works perfect in FSX. So you might want to try that.
Cheers, Rob Barendregt
PS: Doug, if you read this, focus on the change you made from V3.7 to V3.8.1)

Hi Rob,
after reading your message, Doug sent me a version 3.8.2.0 (thanks again, Doug). It does work with FSX (still need to check if it also works with FS9).

Good day all,
I was only able to find the old version of the dsd_xml_sound3 which causes FSX to hang and crash.
Has Doug released the new version anywhere? If so can you please forward me to the address.
Alternatively, Doug, are you able to include me on your personal release list?
Your help in resolving my hanging/crashing FSX would be much appreciated!
Regards
Noel

As a heads up for the future, please do not reply to a five year old message... :)
Instead, start a new thread...
