First & foremost – I’m not a gauge programmer! With that said here’s my Q.

I modify many of my panels using FS Panel Studio. In so doing I find myself frequently replacing existing gauges (.gau file) with a gauge I've located in a .cab file from another panel. And as u all know some of these cabinet files can be pretty hefty in size.

Is there a way I can strip out unnecessary gauge files from a cabinet and retain only the gauge files I desire? If I was only using an ASI, VSI, and ADI from three different large .cab files what procedure would I use to strip these three gauges from their respective cabinets and combine them into a new single cabinet? This would reduce the required size of the gauge package for a given panel significantly. Any help would be appreciated.

1) Unless you're redistrubuting these .CAB files, and they are located in the \gauges folder, it makes no difference whatever to the sim whether you use only one or all of the gauges in the .CAB file.

2) For your own use, you can simply use WinZip to extract all the files in the .CAB to a subfolder, then copy-paste the .xml and .bmp files for any of the gauges to a new folder, then use Cabdir.exe to (re)CAB the new folder you've created.

3) Using the technique above, you can create your own "custom" XML .CAB gauge with all your favorites in one place.

HOWEVER! Do not ever upload your custom .CAB gauge file anywhere. To to so would be to violate too many copyrights to contemplate... ;)
