View Full Version : Another Garmin Question
I took Lou's advice and pulled down the Garmin Manuals from thier WEB Site. Before I begin the task of studing the manuls, I have one quick question. Can a FS9 or FSNavigator Flight Plan be uploaded directly into the GNS430? Looking at page 5 of the Garmin Quick Reference Table I am not certain that the unit allows a direct upload of a file. What I seen so far it appears that the flight plan is loaded into the Garmin by hand. Please advise.
Thanks

Flight plans are loaded into the Garmin by hand as you thought. You can save a few in the unit yourself.
No interfaces with FSNav or FS9 flightplanner.
Setting up the flightplan is quick and easy once you get the hang of the "mousing" needed to do the work ... in fact ... in a week or two, you'll wonder what you were even worrying about.
Cheers!!!

Yup, reality is different than FS, and I am often deleting flight plans from the 430 in my Dakota so I can enter a new one.
Seriously, it's so easy to put an FP in the 430 once you get used to it. Never as easy as in FS, but reality is reality.;-)

My best advice is to print out your flightplan like you would in real life, then use it to enter waypoints. A little practice you can do it in the air.
Flying real life with the same unit in my old instructors Seneca I got to load the flight plan from KALB to KROC while we were flying direct to the first waypoint. Not hard to do in real life or the sim world.
Thanks for the quick answers. I'll give it try this evening.
For those who are interested in learning the GNS430, be sure to pull down the quick reference guide. It appears to provide a good road map of the GNS430.

I use AOPA's Online flight planner, and print out the "Nav Log" from it and take that to the plane. I use it to enter the data into the 430.

Yeah, once you get the hang of it, it doesn't take long. The 430 holds I think 17 different flight plans and you can even "reverse" them if you're heading back home by the same route. This saves from having to reinput the flight plan again.
