Hi, all.
Well, I finally ventured into the world of repainting textures and I have a question. I'm applying black masks/layers to the Archer template that are clean in PSP/Photoshop. However, upon ToM'ing the repaint, those areas appear to be 'blow-torched' with some blocky patches (I'm at work right now, otherwise I'd have uploaded a screencap). The masks are being laid down with an 80% tolerance so I can see the base texture, if that helps. Any thoughts? Thanks...

You must NEVER use "pure" colors with DXT3 compression. Which is how the Archer's textures are compressed.

By a pure color, I mean 112,112,112 or 255,0,0, etc. Make it 112,113,114 or 255, 1, 1. You will never see the difference.

Or, do what I do, and if you want to use a "pure" color, add 1% "noise" to it, and that will also solve the problem. I always add some noise, even to the white base coat, but you need very little.

As to connecting things seamlessly, do what I do: Trial and error! ;-)

I never considered that. Will make the changes.

And there I have it from the sage himself. Thanks, Lou.

FYI, I opted to try a competing PA28. After about an hour of with it, I quietly went back to my trusty DF/F1 Piper and whispered '...from my cold, clammy hands...'
Thanks, again, for a rockin' plane.

Ok, I'm home now... :)
One other thing...The tail section of the fuseleage is a seperate portion from from the rest of the fuselage. How do I get any art to connect seamlessly if they're seperate components? See just to the rear of the aircraft registration in the attached screen cap. Thanks, again.
