Hey Guys,

Well, there're many 727s flying with no FMS or GPS devices, just pull out the chart and fly, but the question is, the jetways are not VOR to VOR all the times, many of them have intersections and theres no way to navigate to them without gps help, so how would you fly from a VOR to an intersection without any device?

Thanks,
Mauro Perez.

Hi Mauro,

In most cases, intersections are formed by two, intersecting VOR radials, and can also be determined via DME along a given radial / airway. Check your IFR charts, and you will see what I mean. The information is there to accomplish this. No need for GPS, however you will need real IFR charts.

I flew IFR for many years, and dealt with intersections, and never had GPS.

Now, what may happen in the future is a different story, but many airline's fleets of 727s, right up to their retirement did not have GPS, etc. on board. It was all done with VOR / ADF.

Regards,
