My question is regarding cockpit view zoom settings.
Typically I set the zoom from 1.00 to 0.80 as the default zoom seems to extreme and even at 130 kts it feels like I'm going school zone speed.
The zoom on this bird has got me confused though. When I set it back to .80 it seems like it's actually increasing and the viewpoint gets completely screwed up. So my question is; should the zoom not be adjusted in FS9 for this airplane? I tried .80 on a comparable sized high quality plane (guess) and it looks completely different. It also feels much faster on t/o than the 727. I wander if .80 on the 727 isn't really .80.
I hope I didn't come across as complaining, just a question.
Thanks
Chris

I think the real question to be asked, perhaps to one of our 727 pilot testers is how does the default 727 zoom appear when compared to the real thing, not another FS add-on. ;-)
Where's Clay Dopke when we need him! Chuck Roberts?

Well, I can't remember it ever being mentioned by them during testing, so I think we know the answer:-lol
What is the default zoom? Is it not 1.0 like it says in the cfg?
VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=1.0 // Reduce (eg 0.80) for wider view

I think I did a poor job explaining. Sorry
The only reason I adjust the zoom is to get more of a feeling of speed. Less zoom equals higher perception of speed. No matter what plane you're flying the perception should be the same if the zoom is the same.
I don't think the default 1.00 zoom gives an accurate perception of speed. Correct me if I'm wrong but when I load my ATR, the default zoom is set at .75 I think. At 115 kts. the ATR feels like it's moving right along. I only saying that I tried to replicate that with the 727 and at the same zoom the earth isn't moving by as fast.
Oh well, I love it anyway.

The ATR sits lower to the ground than the 727. The ATR is set to something like .71.
I've seen enough of the view from various real cockpits at takeoff to say the 727 is just fine. It's not going to look like the view from a F1 race car.
Just fly the plane, and don't worry about how the earth looks like its moving a long. ;-)

Okay Lou. Just took this bird down at Kphx, it was great! I just set the FMC for the approach to rnwy 8 and everything was perfect, wait a second, this plane doesn't have a FMC. I guess I am a virtual pilot after all, I flew it by hand just the way they used to. Definetly an added pleasure. Sorry, I'm just one of those obsessive compulsive guys.

No, Chris, you're not. Just read the thread that I locked, concerning obsession over engine type!
At least you're flying the plane. Enjoy it, and you know me; I always tell it like it is, and just want folks to get past things that deny them enjoyment.
Always remember, it's a simulator, not a replicator, and for the money, it's one heck of a simulator! :-)
Happy flying, and credit to Jim Rhoads at Flight one for the "simulator / replicator comment"!

Now Lou I think you stated your feelings about this quite well.
To be fair I should have asked this in a different fashion, maybe not. But it is not fair to sugest from my post that I was not extremly happy with the 727 because this is not true. I am more than happy and think it is a fantasic sim the way it is. There will always be folks that ask why things are done and in the end that is your right to develop the way you guys see fit. I would recommend this 727 to anyone and I don't believe the engine rating is that big of a deal. I do believe the question itself was fair enough and could have been delt with without the assumptions added.
Anyways I hope you see that I meant no offence to anyone on the team, sorry if I came across as *petty*.

No problem, Randy, understood. Now, just take my advice and head out to the local airport. In fact, if you lived near me, I'd take you flying this Saturday. Still looking for someone for the right seat!
