Hello fellow simmers,
I have installed some scenery and now I have a problem of the lights from the runways being in the sky as well as on the runways, Has anyone run into this before, is this nornal? It really takes away from the realisim as well as is very annoying.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If you're running a GeForce card, this is a previously documented problem.

Well I have the same problem. Those darn lights up in the sky , at night looks like alien ships comming down :-lol
But getting to the point,When I downloaded the FS2000 Patch, this happened. But then, I also got the SimFlyers ATL Scenery and It happened.
So im not sure,it can be the patch, the scenery type or well, nobody knows. It may also have to do with the settings on your video card, check the settings on FS2000 and fidgit around with the settings/display. See what happends,It can't hurt.
Bottom line:
[li]Check the FS2000 Update patch,can be that
[li]Can be the scenery that you downloaded , having something to do with the taxiway lights, ect.
[li]Worst comes to worst,if you really are pissed at those lights up in the sky,and if you dont have alot of good planes, try reinstalling FS2000 and see what happens.I have the same problem, but I still yet have this problem fixed. You may want to contact Microsoft.

1) turn off the Shadow option under Display/Settings.
2) or, replace the G3d.dll file you currently have (came from the Patch) with the one that is on Disk#2.
If you opt for 2), the Shadow option is removed from the Display Menu and is therefore not available for selection.
By electing 1) or 2), you "lose" the shadows, which by the way, can improve frame rates. Older ATI cards exhibit similar symptoms, apparently.

I have a Gateway performance 1.6 ghz pent 4 processor, 64 mb geforce3 video card.
Very good system, can run fs2000 with all scenery settings to max with no frame stutter.

Yeah, I have the same problem with my ATI All-in-Wonder Pro 128 32MB AGP, which I guess is getting rather old (discontinued by ATI now).

Hi! Kevin
Just in case. Have you checked if there is any flatten/exclude switch(es) that have to be added after scenery intallation in scenery.cfg. Normaly you would find the information for this in the Reedme file if needed.
If this is not the problem then just put the name of the scenery zip file and where it was downloaded from. I could download and install it and see if I get the same results. Could be the uploader forgot to mention or the automatic process already programmed in the bgl(s) has a flaw.
Hope it helps,
Hugo
2nd post as the previous one seamed to hover somewhere over the rainbow.

I just imagine that the lights "in the air" are the glare of the runway lights on the canopy of the airplane. :)
Why not? And then you aren't chasing files around...

Kevin,
You need to re-apply Patch 2b to your FS2000.

I'm having a similar problem with Florida Scenery I downloaded from Flightsim.com. I'm using FS98 on a p166 and a Voodoo 3 2000pci card. Depending on which scenery is the upper layer it will look fine from the air but the runways of some airports will be 50 ft in the air. While on the ground you can see the lights but not the runway. One runway I've noticed a stranger problem. PART of the runway and taxi way is ok but if you travel west from the east side of the airport, once you pass 1/2 way and get 50 yards you suddenly fall below the runway and crash. Going the other direction you just have to clinb a 10ft hill you can't see. I downloaded quite a bit of Florida.

If this problem can be fixed please let me know.
