Famous war photographer once said "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough". He finally got killed by a land mine.

Hunting for food has my full support, and always will have. Hunting for sport has no place in a civilised society.
Systematic slaughter isn't even hunting, it's killing in the name of entertainment and is sick, sick, sick. Its perpetrators are common criminals and should be tried as such.
However, this photo appears to be of the running of the Bulls. If so, it's probably the only time the odds rest with the animals.
Go Bulls Go! Slaughter a few locals! Maim a couple of tourists! Drop piles of steaming poo loaded with bacteria outside food shops!
Whoohooo!! Paybacks a butch (misprint)!}>}>

hope you guys didn't misunderstood my intention when posting the pic.
it wasn't "look what a brave guy and how he can make money out of photographing a frightened soon-to-be-slaughtered bull"
it was more like "sometimes it's still back to nature man-animal one-on-one. no advantages of being a man there"
now, if I could only run my post through a SimonEvansizer, they would come out with complete grammar and much more substanse....

You would be surprised how he took the photo, its called remote release, I have one that can work up to 100 ft with a radio. There are cable version that work even farther.
I do really love that photo, its one of those once in a lifetime shots. Also he used the ultimate tool, bubble wrap.

Disclaimer: I am repulsed by the idea of the bullfight and am not prejudiced in any way against Spaniards or Europeans, Acadians or Eskimos.
Curious what you think Simon and any others about the seal hunt in Canada. There's a campaign against it here in Switzerland that is calling for a boycott of Canada. So what if Canada was settled because of the demand for fur in Europe. What is the difference between;
a)An eskimo (Inuit) that kills seals, albeit adult, eats the meat and wears the fur, and
b)A poor Canadian fisherman (usually from Newfoundland) who kills a baby seal and sells the fur to a rich _____, then takes the money to feed his family.
This happens everywhere, of course I see no need to kill bulls to attract tourists...the bull run should be continued though if only for weeding out the stupider sorts of tourist.

Seems to me fur wearers should 'Grok' the experience in fullness. Strip the skin from the area to be covered with fur, and be replaced with that fur. Same with various other 'skins' that adorn the wealthy. You know where the tusks can go, eh..

Yessir, that's the thing to do, still I can't condemn the hunters themselves esp. the Eskimos. Hey Tailboom you read Heinlein [;-)] been ages since I read him.

We pretty much have the same reaction to foreign tourists, unfortunately we usually end up calling them immigrants...

I agree with you completely!!!!!
I hate these stupid sports or recreatoins which involve hurting/torturing/killing innocent animals. Every time ISee those idiots get mauled by a bull or thrown agains the wall by a bull I laugh and I say "Good, I hope he is paralized" Hunting as a sport is even more cowardly.
The author of this post hasn't done anything wrong, the picture is quite funny. What must be going through the guy's head...I don't know maybe......"Assume fetal position and insert thumb in mouth!!!!!"

Funny you should mention that...
Toronto is hosting World Youth Day next month during the Pope's visit....
Apparently there has been an uproar because Canadian immigration has turned down 75% of the visa requests for foreign visitors...
Seems they have a hard time finding their way 'home' after the event is over... Dominican Republic alone sent in 25,000 applications for visitation, only 4,000 have been approved.
I think immigration is doing a bang-up job. To all those religious folk who speak about blocking pilgrimages being wrong,
I say fine but don't expect me to pay for it with my tax dollars when we have to send officers to find the morons and deport them.

Ok, guys. First of all, I have no beef with your opinions. I am from Nebraska. I raise cattle for exhibition. I have heard people criticize me and people like me. They call it cruel that the calves live in a pen and then die to feed "carnivores" like me. Sometimes, I think my calves live better lives then I live. They get to sit around in mud all day, they eat all they want to. As for hunting, there is a disease going around in Nebraska that is the equivelant of Mad Cow Disease. What hunters do is control the population so there is not a massive outbreak. Also everyone I know uses everything but the bones from the deer they kill.
I'm not trying to start a flame war, I'm just trying to bring to you the general opinions of "the other side."

LAST EDITED ON Jul-13-02 AT 03:21PM (EDT)[p]True, I don't like bullfighting, but isn't it a tad more civilized than what it evolved from?. Or would you rather go back to the days of the Gladiators killing each other for the entertainment of the crowd.
Rodeo is much safer for both the animals and the people.
