I have been experiencing an issue with more than on exceptionally great add-ons like your 310. I am SURE that there is no "fault" to be found so please don't interpret the following as a complaint.

My issue is that I experience a MAJOR drop in frame rates on your and a couple of other great add-ons relative to A) how they behaved in 2K2 and B)in FS9 relative to the default aircraft. I know that there is SOME fps hit due to the quality/features of the add-ons but whereas I'm getting 20 fps on the runway with the default flight and 30+ a few feet off the ground, I get 12 or so with the 310 with nearly no improvement with altitude.

Another add-on vendor suggests that I may have a conflict between add-ons. Again, that would be neither vendor's fault. I'm just looking for a solution. (actually, the other vendor's product only gets single digit fps and is essentially not flyable...your is better.)

However, to test the theory of an add-on conflict, I first just moved the entire 310 folder to the desktop but that produced no favorable results with the other add-0n.

Then, I tried to uninstall the 310 but was unable to do so using your uninstall app. I got an error message to the effect that a file named
unic310ver10.exe could not be found or uninstalled (I forget which).

It seemed odd that I was unable to get the uninstall app to work.

Any ideas with respect to the general issue of the potential for various add-ons to conflict with one another or how to get your uninstall app to work would be appreaciated. Mind you I am not abandoning the 310. I like it WAY too much for that. I just want to keep uninstalling add-ons to see if the remaining ones work better and then figure out what to do from there.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

As to various add-ons conflicting with one another, YES they will, IF you do not first load the new aircraft (the 310 for example) over the default Cessna start flight at KSEA, then save it from there. This procedure is described in our FAQ forum. New aircraft should always first be loaded over the default start flight, then changes made to the flight, and the flight saved from there. They should never be loaded over other 3rd party aircraft, especially complex ones. Aside from this, there is really no other way one aircraft add-on can conflict with another.

If you really want problems for example, load something like a complex 3rd party airliner add-on, then swap it out with our Cessna 310. That would be a recipe for disaster. ;-)

Tom Main suggest the following as to uninstalling:

1. Move the folder back to the correct location and try uninstalling again.

2.Reinstall the product and then immediately uninstall. The install will just overwrite the existing with the correct files.

Can I add my two cents' worth here?

12 fps in FS these days shouldn't be a problem if you turn the frame rate counter off and use techniques t ensure you're not letting the fps thing take over your simming.

I'm flying the 310 in 8-10fps and although I can see the jumpiness if I concentrate on it, if I ignore it, it sorta goes away. Not saying that's something you should do, just pointing out what works for me, and lets me continue to enjoy the 310 in less than movie quality...

Yeah but that's like the kid on the swing who thinks he's hiding from his mother when he covers his own eyes!!! (:

Actually, it's the OTHER really great add-0n that is the worse. It drops to 6-8 which is really a slide show. I'd have to have more wine than I can handle to be able to ignore that. (:

Thanks

Yes, Lou I have for a long time now followed the procedure of loading the default flight and then swap ships/locations. But if I understand you correctly even having done that if I swap AGAIN from, say your 310 to another complex add-on, I should actually swap back to the default flight (172 at Seattle) before swapping to another machine...in other words, even though I've been a good boy and started out with the default flight, I shouldn't swap directly from one add-on to another, is that correct??

And now if I might just offer a suggestion that may or may not be of any value. But at any given time in the technology cycle, there will be more rigs in use that are at the mid-lower end of the then current state of the art curve...by far...than at the higher end.

I think you developers might be well advised to offer a "dumbed down" version of your newest ships to cater to that market. In a way, doing so would be like the fine fellow who posted dumbed down clouds for FS9 that A LOT of people use because their rigs can't handle a dense mass of the "real thing".

Either the above or somehow imbed into your releases a way for the users to dumb it down themselves i.e. turn features off, select fewer guages or a panel with less resolution...whatever...just a way to accomodate the greatest number of potential customers while reducing the tech support and/or "complaint factor" by a large amount I would imagine.

Just a thought.
Thanks,
Jim

I did the uninstall/reinstall thing with your 310 and actually, it turns out that the problem is with the other outfit's machine.

In yours, I now get 14-16 on the runway at Seattle with immediate improvement with altitude up to 25-35 above 4000 agl. The other ship starts at 7-10 and NEVER gets above about 12 EXCEPT when using the side window view when the FPS goes up A LOT. I've never seen that before.

That last remaining issue I have with the 310 is that although the outside views are VERY smooth the guages (AI, VSI etc.) move in sort of a staccato fashion...soe does the GPS. The symbolic airplane stays fixed during turns then sort of jumps to catch up. That seems odd since, as I say, the outside view is smooth as glass at 25+ fps and not much variation in fps indicating a stutterish tendency.

One possible clue that may indicate my rig is the issue (although I don't get that staccato guage issue with other planes, is that the mouse pointer flickers constantly...back and forth between an arrow and an hour glass...really rapid flickering.

Device Manager doesn't show any conflicts. I'm sure this is not software specific to your 310...just hoping that someone more technically inclined than me...which means just about everyone, might know what's up with that.

Thanks!,
Jim
