A P4 2.2 should be more than enough for FS8/FS9 and the 310, as long as you have good video and RAM. We had folks testing the 310 with good results on a lot less CPU than that!
Happy to hear all is well with the 310. :-)

I'm using the same card as you (Ti500) with an Athlon XP1900+ in Windows XP. I downloaded the 45.23 drivers from the nVidia site and loaded them. Every time I rebooted it would get to the desktop (but verrrrrry slowly) and then I'd get the BSD telling me there was a problem with nv4_disp.dll. I rolled back to the 44.03 drivers and it's all working perfectly again. Maybe it's just my system but I'd say don't use the 45.23s if you don't need them.

I always wait until the new drivers appear on Windows Update - it takes a little longer to get them, but i've never had a compatibility problem, where as i have when i've downloaded them straight from Nvidia.

You should know that Windows Update is never going to have up to date drivers, most of the stuff they post there are generic drivers designed just to get the hardware working with a bar minimum of features. It's the manufacturer's responsibility to produce drivers, not Microsoft. You're probably missing out on some pretty large performance and image quality gains by using the default MS drivers instead of the Nvidia Detonator. I can't imagine what kind of trouble you've had installing the dets, but send me an email at TabsAZ@aol.com and I'll walk you through step by step how to update them. The new ones work superb, I gained a few FPS in 2004 and the blurred textures seemed to have been lessened by quite a bit.

Thanks for the offer, Ryan. I'm a little busy at the moment, got what seems like a thousand things to do at once, what with going on holiday tomorrow and trying to get US Visa applications sorted, but i WILL keep your offer in mind. Thanks again :-)
