Elmar's tutorial works great...LNAV, VNAV like butter. So does KLAS to KONT...smooth as silk. However, starting from an airport btwn LAS and ONT I program the FMC inputting wpts in the RTE page pressing TO after each entry; set crz alt, fuel, OAT etc.,
FMC will on the first try fly LNAV. VNAV sends the airplane straight down into the sage brush. It has to be something like the liturgy for which I ask the Almighty to forgive me for what I have done and what I have failed to do.
Does the deliberate omission of SIDS, STARS and transitions mess up the VNAV?

I fly KBOS-KJFK all the time with no SIDs or STARs selected. I just enter waypoints on the LEGS page (LUCOS SEY PARCH CCC ROBER) plus enter the departure and arrival runways. Once the FMC is fully preflighted, it should show altitudes on the LEGS page. Does yours?

Yes. Altitudes are present. Everything looks normal. It is pre-flighted as it should be. I am not blaming the FMC. I believe I am doing something wrong. What info do you need to help me resolve this problem?
