View Full Version : HDG SEL Lock

Hi all,

There have been some posts in the past days regarding Heading Select lock up.

The situation is the following:

- F/D and A/P are engaged as is the HDG SEL mode;
- Sometimes dialing a new heading does not have any effect on the A/C heading, although the F/D and heading bug react to this change.

On various occasions I found that I could correct this problem by:

a) clicking off and on the HDG SEL switch
b) the above not working, by booting the system;
c) the above not working, by a new install of GA737.

I tried to reproduce the problem by fiddling with the altitude and VS on the MCP and managed to get this lock 3 times, unfortunately I could not determine a fiddling sequence that would always reproduce the problem.

Has anyone found a solution to this that I have missed?

My system is ASUS with P4 1.4, 512MB, Live Value, GeForce 2 32MB, XP Pro, FS2002 Prof.

Best,

Firmo

Hi.
Just tried a flight using Radar Contact 2.2 and FSNav4.51 and had the same problem.
The aircraft follows the FMC plan perfectly until you switch to "manual" (turn off VNAV) when vectored to runway and press Heading Select, nothing happens so I have to disconnect AP and turn heading by hand.
Any thoughts ?

Just tried again without Radar Contact same problem exists.
Tried default Learjet and had no problems.
Seems to be a FSNav4.51 DF 737-400 problem

Only one, Turn off LNAV not VNAV if you want to use the heading select.

If you are flying an LNAV heading, first select the heading you want to fly on the MCP then click on heading select. This should automatically disconnect the LNAV and light up the HDG SEL and you should turn to your required heading. Works fine here with FSNAV, FSUIPC and anything else you care to mention.

Hi.
I`m going thru trial and error to see what my problem is and now i`ve gone into "modules" and dragged the FSNav DLL out to disable it and ran FS2002 and Still the heading select does not work.
The light comes on but nothing happens.
How do you steeer this aircraft Without the FMC running (VNAV and LNAV)?

Do you have CMD A or B on in addition the HDG SEL? Without CMD on, the A/P will not actually control the aircraft, only give you clues with the flight director.

Hi.
I`ve tried Autopilot A and B and not at all.
Flight Director tells me to turn but no go.
Is it me or is it a bug ?

Eddie,

Sorry to hear you are having problems, but believe me it is NOT a bug! It really does work as advertised. I suggest if all else fails, you de-install, the patch then the main GA737 and then re-install the GA 737 then the patch again. I wish I could nip over and go through it with you but I guess thats not really feasable.

Question ... Are you using a DF aircraft with it default aircraft cfg file? Reason I ask is I had this prob using Terry Gaff's excellent 737-200. I solve the problem by coping over elements of the DF aircraft cfg file to the 732 aircraft cfg file and heading select worked as advertised from that point on.

If you are using DF aircraft this obviously does not help. If you are not you may want to try this.

Hi.
Your absolutely correct about the default aircraft.
I wanted to use it to save my frame rates as it`s quite a good looking plane and I thought the panel would be straight forward to use on another aircraft.

What did you add to the cfg to make it work ?

Thanks for your help.

Back to bed now, too much beer !

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Eddie,

I have the DF panel running perfectly with the default 737's (I wanted the moving wheels and opening doors), It took some tweaking to get the gear heiight right and the lights in the correct places but now it's perfect. If you want me to send you the cfg file plus instruction etc, let me have your e-mail address.

I know it`s the air file but which entry is it.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-02 AT 07:09PM (EDT)[p]Eddie

Gear height is controlled via the Contact Points entry in the aircraft.cfg.

I'll send you the details tomorrow by mail as it's late here in Amsterdam and I too have to work in the morning, check your mail tomorrow pm.
