As explained in the manual, while authentically labeled as an "on/off" switch, the autopilot toggle switch, located below the AAS unit on the main panel, is actually an engage/disengage switch. It does not supply power to the autopilot, but only engages the autopilot to the mode that has been selected on the autopilot Mode Control Unit.
Also, and as explained in the manual, due to limitations in FS, this switch will NOT move if clicked upon IF the avionics master switch is in the OFF position. This is not a bug, but expected operation within constraints of FS.
