This is a really stupid question but I feel it must be asked. Why are add-on developers referred to as "3rd-party" developers? Whatever happened to the 2nd party????

Just curious,

Lou, I didn't know you were a martini man. Shaken or stired?

Shaken or stirred? Any way I can get it!

We have a room in our house decorated like the Martini Bar on Celebrity Cruise Lines "MS Galaxy" (a cruise ship). The furniture and walls are covered in a Zebra-print fabric! ;-)

Yeah, nothing beats a good Martini. :-)

Lou

I suspect the first party refers to the developer of the original product (MS, eg.), second party would be the commercial add-on producers (Abacus, eg.), third party would be those of us who make our own outside of an organized business (freeware, shareware, etc).

My understanding is that first party refers to the manufacturer of the base product (in this case, that would be Microsoft) and the second party is the purchaser/consumer (you or me who uses the product). Third party would be any other individual or company who markets a product that enhances or adds to the base product for the benefit of the consumer (payware or freeware).
