First of all, I do not, repeat, do NOT want to start some kind of flame war or whatnot. Just wanting to set the record straight.

Second, I think it's great what Unity is achieving. The very detailed database will be a very great addition and a benefit to its pilots. From the OpEd at Flightsim by Dean Hall, I quote, "I can say with utmost certainty that never before has such a comprehensive database been assimilated into one cohesive unit."

Again, to set things straight, Unity is not the first VA to endeavour in such a database.

Livewire Airlines has HAD such a database since practically when it first opened up in December 2000. Each flight has it's own designated aircraft with it's own tail # that costs the airline money to purchase for each flight. After the flight is flown, expenditures are paid, money goes to the airline, the hub in question, payment to the pilot, and if the aircraft had a share owned by a pilot it was paid to him/her as well. If the flight also had a special promotional going on, the extra funds would be also automatically transfered to the pilot who flew the special flight.

Also, the flight is recorded into the database for the time it flew and whether it was successful flight or a crash. If a crash occured, it would have very negative effects on the airline, and its stock would dip severely affecting EVERYONE's earnings who had stock owned. And this happens accross the board for all the divisions in the airline.

...all that happens as soon as the pilot pushes SUBMIT when filing their PIREP.

Again, I do not intend to downplay the achievments for Unity. However, Unity definitely is not the first VA to have achieved anything like this. If I misread somewhere and Unity truly did introduce something ingenious, I'll be happy to be corrected.
