19th July 2002, London Heathrow
After almost 2 years of negotiations, the Board of British Airways Virtual is proud to announce that we have signed a formal legal agreement with British Airways which licenses British Airways Virtual to display the British Airways logo and trademark and link to the British Airways homepage.
This is a historic agreement because it is believed to be the first time a real world airline has formally recognised its virtual counterpart. Many other virtual airlines have been closed down by their real-life counterparts and this agreement has only been possible because of the professionalism, which has been at the heart of British Airways Virtual since its inception. Our Forum has been of particular interest to British Airways and has been monitored over many months. Your Directors wish to thank all you all for enabling us to complete this agreement.
We have been very fortunate to have our own pilot Jonathan Gorse, a British Airways employee, smoothing the way for us within British Airways and without his tireless efforts; we could not have expected to make progress this quickly. Jonathan was kind enough to arrange a meeting at British Airways Headquarters ‘Waterside’ near Heathrow, where your Board made a presentation to executives from British Airways’ Legal, Marketing and eBA departments. This face-to-face meeting was a crucial factor in securing the deal.
British Airways Virtual hope that this is the start of a long-term relationship with British Airways and in the months ahead we will be exploring the possibilities of benefits for our members - however, this is unlikely to include special fares! In the meantime, please use the special link to visit the British Airways website and keep an eye out for any special banner ads which may appear. Please consider British Airways first for your future travel plans.
