LAST EDITED ON May-25-02 AT 05:23PM (EDT)[p]Well, now that this forum's here, I don't have to feel guilty about posting this.
I'm toying with the idea of starting a VA based off of the real-life Korean Air. Although it will probably draw few pilots, I think that a virtual asian airline would be a nice addition to the myriad of VA's already out there.
However, I would like to have the permission of Korean Air to use their logo on my website, lest I should be shut down by them, as were a number of virtual American Airlines. Could someone post a letter they sent asking for permission to a real-life airline asking for this permission? I just want to see what kind of things were included in that letter.

Perhaps this could be helpful to me as well.
Currently, I am in the process of creating a permanent home for Erie Intl Airport on VATSIM. One thing that I was hoping would be to start a virtual FBO, based on the real world North Coast Air (http://www.ncair.com/). Even though I know Bonnie Moorhead (one of the owners) rather well, I still lack what to say.

Well, I already started my VA without official sanction from Korean Air, but here's what I've done to avoid any potential problems.
1.) Not used the Korean Air logo on my page
2.) Avoided using the same color scheme as the real Korean Air website.
3.) Disavowed any connection with Korean Air.
4.) E-mailed them to let them know I planned on using their name.
One more thing I would've done is to register a .org domain instead of a .com one. Although I did talk to a lawyer who said that the .com extension is so generic now that just because a site has a .com extension doesn't mean that a site is commercial. Inversely, .org doesn't mean that it's non-profit.
Just try to avoid stepping on anyones toes....

JC, I wish you the best of luck with your VA! I myself am also starting a virtual airline in the United States. It is a commuter VA serving the great lakes / midwest area of the US, and Im currently in the initial development stage.
I wanted to post this to SFMMAlwaysRules. I see that you are running the Erie Virtual Airport and looking at starting a virtual FBO. My ideas for my VA (American Midwest Commuter) revolves around creating an environment for my pilots/members such as scenery development for our destinations, to enhance realism. Part of this idea also revolves around creating partnerships with other virtual airlines/airports etc. If your virtual airport is seeking a commuter carrier, or if your virtual FBO is interested in providing services at our Gary-Chicago Regional Airport Hub, maybe we can talk. If you are interested in finding out more, please visit my airline's site...

Thanks, and good luck to each of you!

You mean ALWAYS under construction (as is the case for me!@) Thanks, SFMMAlwaysRules... received your email! The idea of a virtual airport as you are doing is very interesting! I'd like to get my VA involved somehow if I manage to get it off the ground. Im puting in a lot of work, but have not received much response so far. Maybe because its not up and running yet? Anyway, once I get this stuff going we'll have to talk :-) Take care!
Cory
