We all love coming here to see what new toys you've all been building, but what do you do when Microsoft upgrades Flightsim?

Do you all have to go buy 5 new PC's, or do you have a strategy for designing multi platform systems that takes the future into account?

I'm just wondering ;-)

I dont have the money & time required to build a cockpit, but I imagine you just re-install and spend a little time re-configuring. I doubt if it would be *too* hard, especially considering the 1000s of hours these guys already put into this thing.

I just wish i could start one myself....I can already see it, a 777-200, full glass cockpit, projector for the big screen, project magenta displays, working FMS, autopilot, throttle, rudders, etc, etc....sigh.

I am currently still using one computer for the sim, and it has run well since FS98. I should start looking into getting a new one since this one is quite slow. The sims that use many computers don't all have Fs on them. those computers have different applications running on them, and so if a specific application driven by hardware works, a new computer is not needed. Only the main computer that actually runs the flightsim program might need to be upgraded.

simple:

my cockpit will run on 1 pc
(unless it turns out i need more :/ .. but then it'll take muuuuuuuuuch more time to finish the thing cuz i can't afford more than 1 at this time)

new sims from m$ ?
cool .. but i don't need 'em

if it turns out that FS2004 will need little more recourses than FS2002 (i strongly believe in that at this time .. seen the few improvements in the game .. ok, clouds .. but these use Gmax now .. and we all know how (relatively) good Gmax is on the framerate ..)

and after that ? FS2008 etc ?
dunno .. maybe on a pc like old days .. but not into my cockpit.

i find FS2002 realistic enough as a sim. i build a cockpit for more realism instead of investing in new pc's and new fs-versions all the time.

simple enough, right ?

It all comes to FSUIPC.dll - if it works on the new sim, mostly everything else works as well. FSUIPC is the glue.
