View Full Version : X plane updates - HELP
LAST EDITED ON May-06-02 AT 08:45PM (EDT)[p]I have version 552 on cd and do not understand how to use the updates that followed after that. Were do I unzip the updates to?
How many updates are available after 522? and should I not have all of them how do I get them.
Thank you for your help

I'm in the same boat. I bought X-plane from a store recently. The installer refers to a folder that isn't actually on the cd. It says it's version 5.54.
I downloaded the 6.14 "update" which just unzips some new files. I placed those into the game folder and tried running the new version, but it comes back with an error, from which it exits to the desktop. Maybe it's not finding some files it needs?
Should I try installing the 5.66 update? Or did I just buy some weird, incomplete demo version? It cost 40 bucks, so I assumed it was the full thing.

Free updates are only good for your version's integer. If you bought version 5, you can only get updates that read 5.xx.
X-plane.com no longer has those updates, but take a look on a search engine for x-plane version 5 upgrades; you should be able to find something.
Who sold you this!
Current version is 6.xx (6.14beta2)
Return it at once! and get the latest!

X-Plane's homepage even says that some stores are still selling version 5. The site specifies that it's an OLD version, and they no longer have updates for version 5 on their website. I agree with Ihor; return it if possible and buy the new version from x-plane.com (or save $5 shipping if you buy it from x-plane.org).
I came across a couple of ver. 5.xx X-Planes Published by Xicat at my local Best Buy here in Burbank last Saturday. The box says that free updates are available over the Internet. What is not mentioned is that the version updates stop at 5.66
My personal opinion is that this is somewhat misleading for the unsuspecting buyer who might expect to get version 6.xx when on the website.
When I sold software, we always advertised the 'latest version' and old versions were pulled and returned to the publisher.
I also believe that it's not Austin's fault that Xicat and/or Best Buy (or any other software reseller) fail to pull 'old' versions clearly off the shelves or fail to adequately inform potential buyers that they are getting old versions, though the cheap price of $29.99 should offer some clue as to the products 'age'.
