I downloaded the 6.1 demo last night, and although I only had time to play around with the features for about 20 minutes, I must say it is impressive! The last time I downloaded X-Plane was about 1 1/2 years ago, and all none of the text was legible (low-res, all blocky) within the game, so I couldn't even read it to change the res. But now I'm thinking of buying the latest version!

I started (supposedly) on a runway at Denver International, though the mountains were FAR too close in the sim. I had to double-check to make sure I didn't select another airport by mistake. Hmm, oh well. So I took off in a Cessna, and it's great how you can really feel the plane "slip" through the air, especially when you pull up too fast and the wings have to plow through the atmosphere until they start to really lift.

Another thing I like is how the big metal moves. After upping my resolution and showing more features (like cars on the road), the sim plopped me back down on the runway just in time to see a big old jet pull up quickly and to the right to avoid landing on me. The way it moved through the sky was more lifelike than anything I've seen in FS2002, and so that was pretty impressive (and a bit scary).

Anyway, I'm just posting here so all the FS2002 junkies out there can get some insight into a great sim. FS2002 will still be my favorite because I'm an eye-candy VFR flyer, and because I already know all the keyboard commands & hotkeys, but I'll be flying around the X-world very much in the near future.

Cheers,
K
