XPlane running very slow

I am a rookie with XPlane as I just recently installed it in my co. When running the software I noticed that it is running very slow. For example with full throtle the aircraft sitting on rwy 25L at LAX would reach VR speed in almost 1 minute. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem ?.

My configurations are as follows :
PIII-700, 256MB RAM, 20G HD, TNT Vidia 32MB, Wingman Joystick.

go get the latest drivers. nvidia.com
