Hi all. I downloaded a 737 from Avsim (I know Im a traitor) by Cameron Bowerman. The textures are .bins. Whats up with that? I thought that X-Plane (newbie here, Ill admit it-FS2K native except got tired of sorry frames) needed .bmps for the aircraft textures to work? The plane will load in X-Plane but its solid white like the color for the polygons-not textured. I tried opening these .bins in PSP but it cant open them. Whats wrong?-
I got a PIII 700 128 RAM GeForce 2 MX 32mg with 12.41 drivers.-Thanks-redhotchilipeppers™

(To Cameron Bowerman-Your 737 is awesome though and love that panel.)

X-Plane is supported on both Macs and PCs. Some bmp files from the mac systems come out like XXXX.bmp.bin. You need to get "Alladin Expander". Go to x-plane.org and look for it there. When you get it installed, drag all those bin files into the icon for Alladin Expander, and it will create new, correct, bmp files where you dragged the bin files from. You can then delete those bin files.

You'll find some XP aircraft com as .sit files. Those can only be extracted with Alladin. And if you get an error trying to expand an XP zip file with your regular zip utility, try dragging it to alladin also. It should work.

I saw you had another post about shadows. It may not be available in your version, or you may have to turn up the graphic details in the appropriate menu. Version 5.66 is the most current, though some old-timers don't like it for various reasons. I like it, personally. You could download and use it for free as long as you have your original XP disk in the drive. I'd recommend not deleting your original version until you're sure you like the new one, though. Even then, you may want to leave it on the disk as I suspect some kind of problems if you delete it. Can't be sure though. I'm no expert. The next version of XP is rumored to not be free, but it's just rumor so far. I think it'll be worth it anyways.

Welcome to the wonderful but sometimes frustrating world of XP! Good luck!
