I have a PIII 450 with a 3D graphics card. You must have Open GL capability to run X-plane. 128Meg RAM and X-plane runs fine.
The ATC is verbal as well as text so you can see the deal. There are a few bugs in the pronunciation.
X-plane is a good sim. The downloads are pretty good and it is constantly refined and best of all Austin Meyer, the developer has email and reads them all and responds to user questions and suggestions.
The visuals are different from FS2000, that takes getting used to and the aircraft models are not as detailed as FS2000, but they are improving rapidly.
I love X-plane. It also comes with built in scenery, aircraft and weather design programs so you can try you hand at it.

The newest version of X-Plane which is now 5.65 (and this continues since the change in 5.60) is that you need Microsoft Speech 5.0 in order to hear the ATC. This is a big download as well.
As to the pronunciation errors.... yeah they're in there. Although I have a weather service in my area and it's machine pronounces wind the same way that X-Plane does... you can go in to Microsoft Speech and change pronunciations of words.... a little trouble but might be worth it if you want more accurate pronunciation.
Biggest problem with ATC is that it is canned chatter.... hoping to make it accurate sometime soon.....

Yes, excellent, especially on a Mac, but also on PC
